Choices
I got the cart, and some Christmas towels for the kitchen as well. I ended up grabbing four big bath sheets as I made my way back to the bedding section. We ended up getting the comforter, two sheet sets, pilowcases, and the six decorative pillows. I laughed at us, but I was so excited. This was a good trial run for when and if we moved in together. I was hoping for the when. I couldn't believe that he would allow me to have an input on these kinds of things. "Ready to head back to the holiday decorations?"
I was a bit shocked. I am typically comfortable with a comforter a pillow and sheets, sometimes they match, but I imagined we'd be making quite the mess of the sheets often enough that it would not hurt to have extras. I knew the throw pillows would come in handy but would mostly end up on the floor, maybe I would pick them up when she wasn't over, maybe. I laughed. "We better get a move on, we stay here we'll buy the whole damn store."
"Imagine setting up a house together." I giggled as he led us back to the Christmas section so we could pick out more ornaments. I found some white twinkle lights that had a few different settings. "We need these."
"Yeah, we do." I made my way back over to the tree with blue, white and silver ornaments on it. I found a pretty blue Father Time, Old Man Winter ornament and had to have it, then I found a clear crystal bell and thought I was going to die. I had to have that one too. It reminded me of home. I showed them both to Lizzie with a colossal grin on my face.
"They are perfect." We found a few more ornaments to supplement the sets that we found. "I think we have enough ornaments. Did you want a star or an angel for the top? Or something else entirely? Oh! We could do a giant blue bow and have the ends wrap around like garland. What do you think?"
"I think I love that idea. I wanted to do ribbon instead of garland and hadn't even thought of a tree topper. Can you tie a bow, because I sure can't"
"I can." I laughed. "I can teach you and you can be my helper. We'll have to add a craft store to our stops so we can pick out the ribbon. Oh, and a hot glue gun."
"Hot glue?"
"Yep. One of the best inventions in the craft world. It will make the bow look perfect." I patted his shoulder. "We still need a tree stand and candles." I pointed to an area past the decorated trees. "I think I saw candles over there."
I let her take charge of the situation after we had the ornaments picked out. I was very happy with our selection. "You know it just occurred to me, We got a lot of blue and grey stuff here, the bedding, and the tree and even the towel things. Green is still my favorite color you know, but I like these ones too."
I laughed. "Blue is mine, but you knew that. I am not used to having to take someone else's opinions into consideration. I am so sorry if I have taken over." I blushed and stopped as we got to the candles. "This is all, you babe."
"No I am fine, if I didn't like it you would already know. Thank you. I am not used to it either, but I know how to speak my mind." I smiled and nudged her gently. I looked at her for a long moment and nearly kissed her on the spot, Lord knows I wanted to. I laughed self consciously and put my hand in my hair instead and looked for short white candles. "Ha! There you are. Oh look it even says perfect for your Menorah. Stupid advertising. I hate that. But there are 10 candles in here, so it will work just fine."
I bit my lip. I knew that look in his eyes. "Yay. Now we just need a tree stand. Are there any other decorations we need for Hanukkah? Is there a special cloth that goes under the Menorah?"
"Not really that I know of. We'll need to put something under it if we put it on the table, something in the same vein as our other decorations so maybe a blue and silver placemat. It would complete the piece and look good on the table. Even though the Menorah is gold, blue and silver will work."
"Okay." I looked around for something that would work. I found a set of blue placemats with the star of David stitched on it in silver. I held it up for him to see, feeling all proud of myself.
"Perfection. They should have tree stands here if we want a fancy one otherwise, Lowes or Walmart will work just fine."
"Oh, a tree skirt will cover a plain stand. I saw some over here. We can probably get a ribbon at Walmart too." I headed over to where I saw the tree skirts. There was a royal blue one with silver snowflakes embroidered on it. "I think we picked a good theme." I giggled.
"Yeah." I got all dopey on her and felt like I was melting. "I was excited, but this is so cool. Oh, girl, I need to get you home." I had mischief and loving on my mind and food. I was hungry again. I sighed. "I'm hungry."
I raised my eyebrows at him. "Let's check out and go grab some dinner. We can hit Walmart before we go to the tree farm tomorrow. Sound like a plan?"
I nodded emphatically. Why I didn't realize that it would be obvious that we were a couple to anyone looking didn't occur to me I cannot say. I touched her cheek and smiled. "Sushi?"
"For you." I laughed and guided us to the register. The total startled me and the sales clerk took her time wrapping the individual ornaments. She didn't seem to recognize Avi, but she congratulated us on our first Christmas together. We both blushed and took our packages out to the car.
