CHAPTER ONE
THE BLYTHE FAMILY"CORA, ITS TIME for school!" Gilbert's voice echoed tenderly towards his younger sister. Ever since their dearest father had passed away, Gilbert had been extremely protective of Cora, not letting her get hurt in any way or form. He had lost enough in his life and he couldn't bare losing Cora too. Gilbert furrowed his eyebrows but cracked a smile as he heard dainty footsteps growing louder and louder.
Cora rushed downstairs after rapidly braiding her chestnut hair into one single plait. Unlike Gilbert, Cora had inherited her mother's emerald green eyes, that matched exactly with her plain school dress. Her eyes gleamed in the sunlight as she hugged her brother and grabbed her books and milk from Mary's hands.
Mary and Bash smiled at the duo of siblings and soon turned to the newest addition of the family: Delphine.
"What about breakfast Cor?" Gilbert asked with concern evident in his chocolate brown eyes.
"I can live without it dear brother, now we wouldn't want to be late, do we?" Cora chuckled as her eyes lit up.
"You have a point." He laughed back as they bid the couple goodbye and walked outside of the worn out house that they called home.
Playfully teasing each other as they walked to the school, Gilbert and Cora were on better terms than most siblings. Every time they lost someone, they grew closer than ever, and that secured their bond as siblings even further.
"Did you hear that we have a new female teacher?" Gilbert asked Cora.
"Actually, yes. Her name is Muriel Stacy. Anne told me all about her. She wears pants! Pants!" Cora yelped in excitement.
"That sounds lovely, I cannot wait to meet her." Gilbert hummed in excitement as his cheeks flushed a soft shade of red at the mention of Anne.
They walked inside the school house, as Anne tackled Cora into a hug.
"Cor you're here! It's been ages, and you look absolutely splendid as well. Is you hair tied into a french braid? I would love to learn how to do that as well. You look exquisite.." Anne rambled on making Cora giggle in excitement.
"It has been too long Anne, and of course I can teach you how to tie your hair like this. You shall look even better after."Cora said while shaking her head.
"Thank you very much Cora.. But my hair is far too red and disastrous to look as pretty as yours." Anne said morosely and finally turned around to notice Gilbert's presence, "Gilbert, I didn't you see there. Good morning." She said and smiled sweetly at him, which shocked Cora immensely.
Anne was known to hate Gilbert Blythe ever since he had called her carrots and singled out her biggest insecurity in front of the entire class. Cora, however, had to disagree with everyone else; Anne's hair was gorgeous, enviable even, and matched the colour of fire. It was unique, and Cora liked unique.
Cora shot Gilbert a knowing smile as he blushed beet red and mustered a thank you, giving Anne the famous 'heart eyes'.
Another woman entered the class, this time wearing pants and no corset. She carried a globe that clumsily fell out of her hands and rolled towards Cora's feet.
"Well I just laid the world at your feet, didn't I?" Miss Stacy said, and Cora already adored the woman.
The class spent the next few hours getting to know each other, and Miss Stacy found Cora to be 'Compassionate' and 'Bodacious' indeed.
