CHAPTER FOUR
HARSH REALISATIONS

"CORA, WHATS WRONG?" Cole asked as he looked at the shaking girl next to him.

"I-I just need a minute to breathe." Cora said and she rushed towards the garden, and considering that she was limping on one foot, she was not very fast. The young girl felt a figure crash into her, and the older woman fell to the floor. It was Josephine Barry.

"I-I'm so sorry, are you a-alright?" Cora said while her feet started to tremble as she helped the woman up.

"I believe I should be asking you the same question. You look quite shaken up dear, are you alright?" Josephine questioned.

"No. I don't think I am alright.. I think I'm l-like you. I think I'm attracted to women." Cora barely got the last sentence out before she broke down into tears and Josephine clutched her, trying to comfort her.

"And how is that a bad thing dear?" Josephine questioned.

"There's a law against people like us, it's a shunned lifestyle-I'm going to get disowned! I-It's unnatural Aunt Jo.. I'm unnatural." Cora sobbed.

"Love is love my dear Cor, and even if there's a law passed against us, who said it's wrong? If you finally meet someone who makes you feel human, like a person again, then why should their gender play a role in this matter? Life is simple: love who you love, and be with them. There's nothing wrong with that." Josephine said and Cora's head widened with possibility.

Love who you love, and be with them. Cora instantly thought of a certain aqua eyed blonde, and sighed in agreement. After 16 years of feeling lost, she finally felt like a person again. She belonged, and Cora liked that feeling. Mustering up everything she had, Cora walked back to Cole and Anne, who were sitting in Cole's room and talking about multiple possibilities.

"Cora you're back!" Anne squealed in excitement. "I guess I am.." Cora smiled weakly before sitting besides Cole. Cole reassuringly squeezed her hand and Cora relaxed, and smiled at Anne's wide imagination as she spoke.

Cora wondered if she would ever open up to Anne or Cole about who she really was; she wondered whether she could trust her two dearest companions. And most of all she wondered if her attraction for Winifred would simply fade away, although she already knew the answer to that.

She awoke from her daydreams and spontaneously chuckled with Anne and Cole as they giggled at a comment one of them had made, and looking into their innocent eyes, she knew she could trust them with anything and everything.

Her thoughts shifted back to a certain blonde and her aqua blue eyes, and wondered if Winnie could ever return her attraction and fondness for her.

"She's not like me." Cora thought, "She'll probably marry a rich, handsome male suitor and forget all about me.."

If only Cora knew how wrong she was..
