Before Bastille, the thought of performing made Dan Smith sick. It was almost the end of sixth form, he could get a new start, but he still had 5 months to go. He was no one, just a shy kid who went to the music room everyday after school. That was until Erica overheard him singing. Erica promises to herself that she will get Dan to show his talent, even if that means getting him very drunk, very fast...

We were the best of friends, I could tell her everything. She would turn every rotten day into a brighter one. She was always smiling, even though I knew that under that smile, something was hiding. A secret so dark that no one could know. The only person she told was me, and even though I was happy she at least told anyone it was a burden to know what was going on. What she did, what she had seen.. no one could know. But she had told me, trusting I would never tell. And I wouldn't. this secret I would take with me to the grave, just like she already had. She died. For me. And that is one more burden I had to live with.

Dan Smith is at the very beginning of his music career. He's 17 and has had problems at home which means he has to move house and schools. At his new school he meets a girl called Gaby they instantly become best friends or more than friends. This relationship gets them into a whole load of trouble because for some reason Gaby can't trust him. When the popular school kid Abbie, falls in love with Dan. How does she get rid of Gaby? A completed story. Some readers may find upsetting.

This is a coming-of-age story where Dan and his wife are forced to grow up quicker than other people their age, which already sucks. To make matters worse, they also have to confront and deal with many difficult challenges that life throws at them... After all, life was never meant to be simple.
