Sage and her father move into a strange old town surrounded by forest and mysterious neighbors, many of whom know of sage's father. Sage discovers the town's secrets that it is not an ordinary town. Sage also meets Cane Draxton, a guy that is two years older than her. She realizes that he's a friend of her father's and her father asks for him to protect his daughter at all costs from the far this town faces with the hellhounds and her father has kept a secret of his own. " Your father made a decision, and you will respect that. Stop being so stubborn and pack up your things now. We don't have time for this." His tone sounded annoyed at this point, completely forcing the door to open with a slam against the wall. Jumping back at the sudden impact, he steps forward to tower over me. " I won't go until you tell me the truth, Cane. I deserve that much, at least from you. I am getting sick of you controlling the situation! " I spat, backing up until my back hit against the door from his approach towards me. He leaned in, trapping me in with both hands on the sides of my head. My cheeks began to burn, feeling my heart beginning to race from how close we were now. His features were more clear to me close up, his breathtaking golden eyes staring into my own. Dark midnight locks of hair fell down his face, shadowing his face. My eyes trailing down to his soft full pink lips, seeing a light scar across the corner of his lip. His words spoken next broke me out of my trance. " You don't need to know the truth. You have no idea what's at stake here, just trust your father and leave it at that. We care about your well being, Sage, right now your father needs you to listen to him. "He tilted his head slightly to the side in hopes of having an understanding. Cane seemed to suck in a breath looking distracted by something.
