Anna's POV
"Ma'am, we will help your son when the case is already in the court," Shinee stated.
We're here in the house of the headless man's mother. It took us almost two hours to be able to talk to her. It's just been a few weeks since her son died. She's crying. We can't blame her. She lost her only son.
But I am happy that she already shed those tears after we said that we are going to help her.
There are several cases. The pawnshop owner, the headless man, the restaurant owner, and last week a big-time businessman was found dead inside the headquarters of his own company.
About the big-time businessman, his headquarters was burned down. The police officers and detectives are suspecting his competitors in business. The culprit must be so mad. The businessman's body was ripped into pieces. Many corpses were found inside the building. No shreds of evidence were found.
I'm glad that Shinee accepted my offer about this case. I'm curious about everything. The killings were done one by one. The victims were all ripped into pieces. Maybe there's a connection between all these cases. And take note, Xerine is involved in one of the crimes.
"Thank you for accepting our offer, Ma'am," I said before Shinee. I stood up. "You can count on us."
"Thank you very much," the old woman said with a genuine smile.
We bid our goodbyes and left the house. The mother was kind. The coffee that she served tasted nice.
"Where do you want to go now?" Shinee asked. "I'm sure you still want to hang out since your husband is out as of the moment."
"Tsk, how about your boyfriend? " My forehead creased. "I'm also sure that you will not waste your time hanging out today if he's not busy."
She just chuckled. "My husband has a court trial today. "
"Why don't you watch him protect those politicians?" I asked her. "Before you like it every time that he's in a court trial."
We were already walking towards her car when she answered me. "He's too good, Anna. I always feel overwhelmed when I'm watching him."
"You just can't tame your emotions," I whispered. "You're too old for that kind of shit."
I laughed when she glared at me. "I'm not that old! And please, I still look younger than you."
I blurted out a loud laugh. "Pampering yourself, now?"
She rolled her eyes as we entered the car. "Let's just go to a bar."
My eyebrow raised. "You aren't a heavy drinker, right?"
She rolled her eyes. "I just want to relax."
I nodded. "Should I call Xerine to join us?"
"Nah." I saw her typing on her phone. "She's busy with her company. Didn't you see the news? Her company was in the news headline as the most successful agricultural-related company in Asia."
I pouted. "Xerine's in the Philippines, but we can't even talk to her."
She settled her phone in her bag before driving. "She's not a kid anymore. She has her own life too. She is busier than us."
"It's harder to handle tons of cases!" I sighed.
"Maybe, but we're not in her shoes," she said. "And you know, in the business world, she's very competitive."
I rested my back on the shotgun seat. "I can't imagine how good Xerine is at everything."
"Yeah," Shinee replied. "I can't deny the fact that her intelligence is too much."
"She's scary sometimes." I crossed my arms. "She's always odd and not expressive."
She just chuckled as the car stopped because of the street light.
"So, where are we going?" I asked Shinee.
"Bar Imperial," she answered seriously. "That's why we're not allowed to call Xerine to join us."
I turned my gaze to her. "Why are we going there? Just choose another bar."
"That's the nearest decent bar to us," she replied.
I just rolled my eyes and waited for her to stop the car. The owner is not a VIP. The most important is the quality of place and drinks. I don't want to see ladies dancing while I'm drinking my strawberry champagne.
She parked the car. I stepped out of the car and waited for her.
"Why are you in a rush?" She asked. "You can't get drunk."
I chuckled. "Once my husband knew that I got drunk, he will go home in lightning speed."
I groaned when she pulled my hair. "Act accordingly. Your husband is busy."
I entered the bar without waiting for her. She's too slow.
I chose a vacant table with two seats. A band is singing on the small stage. The singer has a good voice. Soothing to be exact.
Shinee sat in front of me after ordering. "I ordered four bottles of beer," she said.
"I don't like the taste of that." I pouted. "But if it's your treat, why not?"
She frowned. "I'm the one who drove the car, paid for the lunch, and now I will also pay for the beer?"
"I'll pay for the Sisig," I offered and she accepted it immediately. Two plates of Sisig for me and her.
We talked about our husbands while waiting for our drinks.
Someone served four bottles of beer in front of us and two plates of Sisig.
My forehead creased when I heard the server speak. "It's been a long time."
Shinee and I looked up to the man. "Marcio?"
He smiled, but I just became irritated. "Hi. How are you two?"
"We're fine," Shinee answered. "I'm sorry, but Xerine is not here with us."
I'm just staring at Shinee and Marcio while they are talking. Marcio's appearance changed a lot. He looks more mature now.
"I am not expecting for Xerine," he replied. "We met a few days ago."
One of my brows raised. "I'm sure she ignored you or she just left you."
He nodded with a smirk. "Yeah. She did that. But I am going to get her anyway."
My gaze turned to Shinee. Her mood changed in an instant.
"He's planning something," Shinee said in a serious tone.
My brows furrowed. "And things are not going to be okay."
