“Mia, you ready?” I yelled walking into her house picking her up on the way to practice with the Hawks today.
Mia’s little sister Brynn came running up to me and hugged me “hi Tor-Tor” she smiled she is the cutest damn 3 year old I know.
“Hi Brynn” I smiled “what are you doing tonight?” I asked her.
“I’m gonna watch TV and I think daddy is taking me to Olive Garden” she got really excited.
I smiled at her again “you love Olive Garden that will be real fun.”
“Not as much fun as you and Mi will have” she got sad because she is also into hockey.
I bent down to her level, “I’ll tell you what, next week I will take you to go skating, just me and you. Is that ok will you?”
“Yes! I’m gonna go tell daddy, have fun tonight Tor-Tor” she hugged me and ran off and Mia came down with Jake hot on her heels.
“Please Mia” he begged.
“Jake no it’s a closed practice we got invited too!” she yelled at him.
“Fine, I’ll just play your guitar all night long” he tried to challenge her.
She laughed and so did her dad “Jake, she’s going to play hockey with the Chicago Blackhawks, who’s the real winner here?” Her dad is the best, his name is Bob and he used to play semi-pro hockey too.
“I hate you” he looked at me “you too” and he went upstairs and pouted like a little girl.
“Mia let’s go I don’t want to be stuck in traffic” I said and she grabbed her bag and we headed out “bye dad!” I yelled “love you!”
“Love you too Tori! Bye Mia, love you” he said, our families are unbelievably close.
“Bye dad, I’ll probably stay at Tori’s I’ll see you sometime soon” he laughed and we left.
We got to the United Center an hour and a half early, just like I thought and we always got to practice an hour early too so this is really no difference. We messed around for a little bit “hey Mia watch this” I said. I put my water bottle on the bottom bleacher and stood on the ground and did a standing tuck, grabbed the bottle and squirted her with it.
I laughed “dammit Tori you do that all the time and I still fall for it” she wiped her face off, and then laughed a little.
“I still can’t believe you can do that, you did gymnastics for a year when you were 10” she laid down on the bleachers.
“I can’t believe my grandma forced me to do it and the fact that I was decent at it shocked me even more” I said drinking my water bottle.
“Did you just do a back thingy?” Patrick Kane asked walking up behind us.
“Oh you saw that?” he nodded “then yeah I did, I’m not proud that I used to be a gymnast”
“Tornado, do your toe touch thing that’s awesome” Mia said treating me like a monkey.
I sighed and did my toe touch jump, it’s pretty much when you jump in the air as high as you can while putting your legs in a straddle. “That was awesome, but you know what’s better, I can do a back tuck” Crawford said coming up behind us, clearly missing the conversation before this.
“Prove it” I challenged him and smiled waiting so I could pull a trick on him.
He dropped his things and did a back tuck “see?” he was happy about it.
