“Tori Brooks and Holden Collins” our, Mr. Fritz, teacher called our names and I looked at Holden and then we looked at the teacher “you both are needed in the office, bring your stuff.”
We grabbed our stuff and left the room “what’d you do?”
My mouth fell “I didn’t do anything this time” I looked at him “it’s your fault you broke the window.”
“That was an accident and you didn’t block the puck” he defended. Holden and I have gotten close since our rinks merged. It’s been two weeks to the day and we have practice the same days so between Mia, Holden and I we switch days as to who drives to the rink.
I looked at him “that was your fault I said I wasn’t gonna block it” so what Holden and I are referring to is two days ago we were playing hockey in the street by our school and Holden took a nasty slap shot and it soared through the window and shattered it and I think they caught us. Holden, Mia and I are normally in trouble so it doesn’t faze us or our parents. We walked into the office and we saw Mia and she was smiling and laughing with Mrs. Diamond the school’s secretary. “Hey Pattie” I waived, I call the teachers I’m close to by their first name and they’ve learned to go with it.
“Hello Tori, Mr. Sargent will see you all now” she said and we walked into his office.
Mr. Sargent saw us and smiled there was a man sitting in the chair I normally sit in “welcome, this is Tori Brooks, Mia Richards, and Holden Collins” he introduced us “this is the hockey coach from Miami Ohio University.”
“Hi, I’m Jack Hansen head coach for the hockey program at Miami Ohio University. I saw all of you applied to the school and all go here and all go to Fury now. Holden you recently just switched, why in the middle of the season?”
“Blues and Fury combined and Fury is a AAA rink and Blue’s was only AA so in the long run it is better but I’m still apart of Blue’s” he answered professionally.
“Ok, that makes sense and Tori and Mia, you’ve been going there for 10 years now, where did you go before?” Jack asked while taking notes.
I smiled “we both went to Bull Valley, yes it was a guys’ team, that’s how we met being the only two girls on the guys’ team.”
Mia continued “we started playing hockey when we were 2 and we transferred to Fury when we were 7 so we played and learned the basics with guys for 5 years. We’ve been playing our entire lives and we’ve always been on the same team too.”
“Oh trust me the whole hockey community knows about the ‘power couple’ or ‘double trouble’ hard to forget the names and faces. You girls don’t look like you play hockey until you’re on the ice. But I wanted to introduce myself because I know all three of you have had many colleges offer you scholarships to top notch D1 schools and also I’ll be at your tournament in Canada this weekend, I also know the coach from Notre Dame will be there and Tori and Holden your brothers happen to go there and they’re making an impact on the sports department in a good way” he shook our hands.
“It was a pleasure to meet you and I know I can’t wait until you see us tear it up on the ice” I said smiling and so did Mia.
“I’ll be sure to look for you Jack” Mia laughed.
Mr. Sargent looked at her “Mr. Hansen, Mia.”
Jack laughed “please no, Jack is fine, I’m not my father.”
I laughed “so you’re the coach for guys and girls?” Holden asked.
“Indeed I am, and the girls train with the guys a lot too.”
