“Well good news is it isn’t broken, but you will have to wear a boot for a week or two and I hate to say it but no hockey” Uncle Dan said.

Holden looked at me, a death glare ‘I’m sorry’ I mouthed and I felt so bad.

‘You owe me’ he mouthed back “it’s good it isn’t broken, but the no hockey that really sucks.”

“I’m sorry, I really am” I said as my uncle left to get the boot “I feel bad.”

“It’s ok, if I were to have played on it, it were to break so I’m glad you made me come” he kicked his legs on the edge of the chair and looked down at his feet.

“I feel really bad, I feel like I just took hockey away from you” now I looked down at my feet, I felt so bad.

Uncle Dan came back in and put the boot on him and taught him how to use it and got him a medical excuse for gym and what not, called his parents, and recommended him not go to school tomorrow so he could get better faster. We got to my car and he was bummed I could tell but he tried not to be for my sake.

“Just say it, say I’m an awful person” I said as we pulled into my driveway.

He sighed and looked at me “you’re not an awful person it just kills me when I’m out of hockey. It’s not your fault; it’s the asshole of a person on the other team.”

I sighed and got out and helped him into the house and into the kitchen so we could eat “how’s the ankle champ?” my mom asked Holden as we sat down to eat dinner.

“It’s not broken but I’m out for a week or two” he said.

My dad threw bread at me “what you do that for?” I asked him.

“You’re the one who made him go” he said.

I threw the bread back “I already feel bad enough, you don’t gotta remind me!”

“Can you stop throwing bread?” my mom said and threw some noodles at me and it hit my face “be classier than that” she smiled at me.

I threw some noodles at my dad and it hit him in the face “oops it slipped” I lied and smiled. I grabbed some more and threw it at Holden “it was an accident?”

“Oh I don’t think so” he smiled back, and then we had a full on noodle fight and we all laughed and had a good time.

“Hey mom, who’s gonna clean this up?” I asked with noodles and sauce in my hair.

She looked around “I’m not doing this, Maria is coming tomorrow, but we can’t leave this overnight, so you get to clean it up a little.”

“That’s not fair you started the noodles and dad started the fight” I said crossing my arms at the table.

“Life isn’t fair, so get to work oh young one” my dad smiled.

“Why couldn’t you have another kid and I could pawn off things like this on the small kid.”

“Well we didn’t so get cleaning” my mom said and left the room, as did my dad.

“Well shit” I said and started cleaning. Holden started helping “what are you doing?” I asked.

“Helping you, I threw some food too.”

“No, you’re not helping, so sit back down” I tried to make him sit.

He sighed and gave up just in time for me to fall onto his lap as I was trying to make him sit down “you have a habit of doing this” he smirked and I blushed. “Oh look you’re blushing” he had to point out and then I blushed harder and then he laughed and then I hide my face in his shoulder “I find it adorable.”
