It's complicated but at the end, it's just us

chapter 7

Gibbs and Jack arrived at Gibbs' house and once the were at the door, he opened it to let her in.
"Come on in" he said while keeping the door open for her
"Thank you, Cowboy" Jack replied, she smiled at Gibbs and got into the house and Gibbs followed her.
They put their coats on the hanger that was right next to the door and then they went in the living room
"You'd like a beer?" Gibbs asked looking at her standing there in the living room and looking around the room, almost like she was searching for something but when she heard Gibbs' voice she turned around to face him
"Yes please" Jack answered
Gibbs didn't bother asking why Jack was looking around like that but he thought that she looked a little bit tensed
"Here you go" said Gibbs after handing Jack one of the two beers he was holding
"Thanks" Jack replied
"So... have a seat" Gibbs said gesturing at the couch and taking a sip of his beer
"I was actually thinking about going downstairs in the basement so you could work on your boat while, I don't know, talking about something?" Jack said while looking at Gibbs' icy blue eyes.
Gibbs looked back at those beautiful brown eyes of hers and said
"Yeah, I gotta change first though"
"Ok, I'll wait you downstairs then" Jack said and walked into the basement.

After a couple of minutes Gibbs finally arrived in the basement and looked at Jack  that was admiring the boat and standing close to it.
"So..." said Gibbs that was already down the stairs
Jack got kinda scared because she didn't hear Gibbs coming into the basement, Gibbs saw that Jack got a bit scared so he immediately said
"Oh, ehm...I didn't want to scare you like that. Are you ok?"
"Yeah, yeah it's fine, no problem" Jack said and then added
"You know Cowboy, you did a really good job with this boat"
"Thanks" replied Gibbs

A few seconds of silence later Gibbs, noticing that Jack was a bit distracted, said
"Is there something wrong? Anything you want to talk about, Jack?"
Jack was kinda thinking about something but since she didn't want to talk about that with him yet so she just said
"Ehm, not really"
"Oh, ok..." Gibbs said and took a sip of his beer again even though he knew that she wasn't telling the truth
"So who do you think Leon will choose to go undercover?" Jack asked
"Hmm...I don't know"
"Oh c'mon, there's gotta be someone that you think that is  most likely to go undercover"
"Maybe me, or I don't know Torres"
Jack smiled at what Gibbs said and then she replied
"Yeah, or Reagan, I mean she's been undercover before, she could definitely do it also judging by her file"
"Yeah that too"

They talked for a while in Gibbs' basement while he kept working on his boat, but then the front door of the house opened and Jack looked at the time on  her cellphone and said
"Oh, it's late. I think I've got to go now"
"Oh, ok" Gibbs said and put down his tool to go upstairs with her.
When they arrived in the living room they saw Reagan coming in
"Oh, hey Agent Sloane, Agent Gibbs" she said
"Agent Reagan, hi" said Jack and Gibbs in unison, and when they noticed it they looked at each other, after a few seconds of awkward silence Jack said "Oh well I was just about to leave now"
"Oh, yeah. Right" said Gibbs
"Oh well, Agent Sloane was nice to see you "
"Likewise, Reagan. Oh and by the way, you can call me Jack if ya want"
"Ok, Jack and you can call me Mary"
"Ok, Mary. Gibbs was nice to talk with you, I'll see you guys tomorrow at work I guess"
"Yeah" Gibbs said
"Bye" Jack added
"Ok bye " Reagan said and then Gibbs closed the door.

"So you found anything new?" Gibbs asked but didn't expect a 'yes' as an answer
"Unfortunately ... no I didn't find anything new yet, but I'm working on it. Sorry Gibbs"
"Rule 6" Gibbs replied
"Oh yeah your rules. So what is rule number 6 again?" Reagan asked
"Rule 6 is : never say you're sorry, it's a sign of weakness. And don't worry about it"
"Oh, I see ok. Yeah well thanks"
Reagan looked at her watch on her wrist and said
"Wow I didn't think it was this  late already , it's almost one in the morning. I think I'll go to bed now, good night Gibbs"
"Night"
Reagan went upstairs and went the guests' room where Gibbs told her, she could stay , and after she took a quick shower she fell asleep on the bed.

In the meantime Gibbs was downstairs sipping another beer in front of the fireplace.
After he finished his beer he got up and went near the shelf and took out the box where he had all his rules.
He opened the box and took out a piece of paper where was written down ' rule #12: never date a co-worker' he looked at it in silence for a minute or two and then he put it back in the box.
Gibbs placed the box back on the shelf like it was before, he looked at the box for a second and then decided to go back in the basement to finish what he stared doing when he was talking to Jack.
He poured himself a bit of bourbon in a jar that was lying on the table next to the boat.

Gibbs continued working on his boat for a really long time thinking about his conversation with Jack that he had that night, about her acting a bit different than usual, her beautiful smile that made him chuckle a bit,  about Ellie being in the hospital, the case and
just a bunch of other things that at the moment were occupying his mind.

It was almost 2:30 in the morning, so since Gibbs was feeling tired he decided to go to bed as well.
He turned off the lights in his basement and went upstairs, he walked in the living room and looked at the box with all the rules in it on the shelf, then he looked at the last flame of fire burning out in the fireplace, he then went put of the room and after he turned off all the lights he went in his bedroom and fell asleep on his bed.

little note from me: I hope you liked reading this part, I know it's not that exciting since nothing actually happened but I hope you liked it anyways
