It's complicated but at the end, it's just us

chapter 9

It was the next day and Reagan woke up early, she went in the kitchen and prepared herself a cup of coffee.

Once she was done drinking her coffee she started to look around and since she hasn't seen Gibbs yet she thought he might've wanted some coffee
"Gibbs? Gibbs? I made coffee, where are you?" she called out but she had no respond so she said louder, almost yelling
"Gibbs are you there? Gibbs?"
no respond again
Reagan started to search for him in the house but didn't find him so she thought that he might've left early and went to work so she went upstairs in the guest room and got dressed, after that she went to work.

Before she arrived at the office, she went to a diner near the NCIS headquarters and got two cups of coffee and a bag with a muffin.
Reagan then paid and walked to the NCIS building.

Once she arrived at the office she walked in the bullpen and saw Mcgee and Nick at their desks
"Good morning, guys" she said with a smile
"Good morning, Reagan" Mcgee said smiling back at her
"Morning, Reagan" Nick said
Reagan and Mcgee exchanged a look in shock because Nick responded to Reagan's 'good morning'
"What ?" Nick asked confused
"Oh, nothing" replied Reagan
"Nah, there must be something, what is it?" Nick said suspicious
Reagan and Mcgee looked at each other and then she said
"We are just surprised that you actually replied to my ' good morning', you've never done that before"
"Oh yeah, right"
"Anyway, where are you going Reagan?" Mcgee wanted to know
"Right! Ehm, I'm going to Jack's office I have to tell her something" she replied
"Oh ok, have fun" he said
"Yeah" she chuckled slightly and then added "thanks Mcgee. I'll see ya later " and just like that she walked away towards Jack's office.
After she left Mcgee and Nick looked at each other and then continued working on the case.

Reagan arrived in front of Jack's office and knocked on the door
"Come on in" Jack called out from inside
Reagan opened the door and said
"Hey Jack"
"Hey Mary. What's up?" Jack asked, not that she didn't want her there but she'd rather have a different visitor that early in the morning, speaking of which where was he?
"Eh nothing much really. Can I talk with you?" Reagan replied as she entered the room and then closed the door behind her
"Yeah sure" Jack replied, something told her that there was something going on and didn't know if she'd had to be concerned or not
"Well first of all I brought you a cup of coffee and a muffin" Reagan said and handed her the items
"Thank you, Mary" Jack replied with a small smile
"No problem, Jack" Reagan smiled back
"So what do you want to talk about?" Jack asked, going back to the reason of her temporary colleague's visit
"Oh maybe it's nothing, I shouldn't have come here, you have work to do and so do I. I might go now " said Reagan while walking back to the door and shaking her head almost embarrassed
"No, please stay" Jack said and got up from her chair, then added while gesturing at the couch
"Have a seat and let's talk"
"Ehm ok " Reagan said and sat down on the couch and then said again
"So I told Gibbs we're going undercover last night"
"Oh wow, brave" said Jack smiling
"Yep" said Reagan also smiling and then continued
"Anyway I wanted him to know before Vance was going to tell him since you guys are kinda having a thing so"
"Wait. What did you just say?" Jack asked confused about the statement
"What do you mean?"
"You said that Gibbs and I have a thing?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I- Gibbs and I don't have a thing, like at all"
"Oh c'mon Jack, really?! The way you two looked at each other the other night, it's clear that there's something between you two"
Jack stared at her without saying anything just like Gibbs would've done, actually her stare was almost as good as his maybe those two have spent more time together than they cared to admit in the past few weeks
"Ok fine" said Reagan and went ahead with what she was saying
"Anyway. We had an argument about it and he started to yell at me. He told me that I had to say ' no' to Vance and that we couldn't go, so I said that I did talk with Vance but he didn't stop arguing so I asked him why and what was the big deal and he answered me that he was worried" before Reagan continued talking Jack cut her off
"Worried?" she asked, Gibbs would never tell anyone that he was worried, well anyone who wasn't Jack so if he was that worried to admit it to someone else whatever he was worried about must've really been important, so now the question was what was he worried about?
"I asked that too" Reagan replied kinda chuckling, she did notice the change of look on Jack's face but she wanted to keep the atmosphere light for now
"And what did he say?" Jack asked
"Well he said that he is worried about you because you never been undercover since you joined NCIS and he also told me that if anything bad happens to you and he isn't there he will never forgive himself" Reagan paused for a second both because she felt kinda guilty to share something personal on the workplace and also to see if Jack was going to say something and eventually she did
"I-, yeah that's something he does. When the people he cares about get in bad situations he thinks it's his fault. But anyway what did you say?" Jack tried to keep her mind and heart distance from the situation, when she heard Reagan say that Gibbs was worried about her her heart warmed up and broke at the same time

"So then I asked if you two were - well you know" Reagan said shrugging a bit
"Yeah ok so?" Jack asked
"Well he said ' no' and I didn't interfere any longer so I told him that nothing will happen to you because you will be with me the whole time and then we talked a bit while we had a beer and I thought everything was fine" Reagan stopped
"But it wasn't" Jack finished her sentence
"Yeah" Reagan confirmed

"What happened?" Jack asked, now she was the one worried about him
"Well when I woke up this morning and I didn't find him anywhere at his place, I thought that he was at work and when I got here I didn't see him so I was wondering if you knew where he is "
"Unfortunately I don't" she hasn't seen Gibbs yet either but now she needed to talk to him
"Do you think he's mad at me?"
"No, I don't think so. I think Gibbs is just processing this whole situation he'll come back don't worry" said Jack trying to comfort her a little bit, even though Jack wasn't so sure about that, well she knew Gibbs better than anyone else but there was still so much she had to learn and was determined to learn about him

"Yeah ok, thanks Jack"
"No problem, Mary"
"So you're coming with me to Kasie for the fake identities?"
"Sure" She needed some fresh air now so maybe going down to Kasie's lab would've made her stop thinking about a certain special agent
"Ok let's go" Reagan said as she stood up and, after Jack did the same, they both walked out her office and went to Kasie's lab.

When they arrived to Kasie's lab she was focused on reading the files with the fake identities that she was holding in her hands

"Hey Kasie" Reagan and Jack said
"Oh hey Jack, Mary" Kasie replied with a smile and a nod
"So Kasie, do you have the fake identities ready?" Reagan asked impatiently
"Yep. I was just reading them right now " Kasie replied
"Great" Jack said and then Kasie started to tell them their new identities
"So" she started handing Reagan the file
"Mary, you will be, Jasmine Cruz, your parents died in a car crash and you lived in a orphanage for 5 years and then had plenty foster families but at the age of 12 your last foster family abandoned you on the street where you met Jack, well in this case Angela Rogers you had a really dark past, your parents were used to hit you and at the age of 8 abandoned you in an orphanage but you escaped and lived on the street where, at the age of 26 you met Jasmine and since then you became inseparable and 6 years ago you two met Petty Officer Wyatt and became friends. Well everything you need to know it's written in the files I gave you"

"Yeah thank you Kasie" Reagan and Jack said while holding the files
"No problem guys. Oh and by the way Jimmy is waiting for you in autopsy for your makeovers"
"Thanks, Kasie" they said and while the were leaving Kasie said with a smile
"Of course, bye guys "
"Bye Kasie" Jack and Reagan said in unison this time and left Kasie's lab and went to autopsy to Jimmy.
