The next day Nick got up early and since Ellie wasn't awake yet he decided to go home and take a shower.
While Nick was leaving Ellie's hospital room he saw the doctors come in and started to run some tests on Ellie to check her condition, Nick didn't ask anything to the doctors about the tests because he saw so tired and needed to go home so he got out of the building and once he reached his car, he drove away.
After a couple of minutes Nick got home and went directly in the bathroom and took a shower.
Once he got out of the shower he started packing a duffel bag with some stuff that he might have needed for the next two days that he had to spend at the hospital with Ellie.
Nick got back into his car and was on his way to the hospital when he decided to go and get some breakfast at the diner.
After Nick parked his car in the parking lot, he took his phone out and called Mcgee, the phone rang three times before Mcgee replied but eventually he did.
"Hey, Nick" said Mcgee "Yo Mcgee, how are ya?" Nick asked "I'm fine thanks, what about you?" Mcgee said "I'm ok I guess" answered Nick "How's Ellie by the way?" Mcgee wanted to know "I think she's fine but I don't actually know right now because when I was leaving the doctors came in and ran some tests on her, but I didn't ask anything because I needed to go out of there and I decided to go home and get some stuff for these two days, but I'm going back to the hospital later" Nick said and Mcgee replied
"Ok, if you have any updates on Ellie's condition please call us" but before Mcgee could hang up the phone call Nick said "Mcgee wait! I'm here at the diner and I'm about to get some breakfast and I was wondering if you wanted to join me since your shift starts in an hour or so" "Yeah sure, I'll be there in five minutes" Mcgee replied "Ok see ya later, Mcgee" "See ya later, Nick" and then they ended the call.
After five minutes Mcgee finally arrived at the diner and once he entered it he saw Nick sitting at the last table, on the corner of the room,
Mcgee walked up to Nick and sat down in front of him.
Once Mcgee sat down Elaine, the waitress, approached their table "Good morning, what can I serve you today?" she asked "I'd like a toast with scrambled eggs and sausages and some coffee, thanks" said Mcgee, then Elaine looked at Nick and he said " I'd like some pancakes with maple syrup and fruit and a coffee, thank you" " No problem, I'll be right back" said Elaine and then left.
Right after Elaine left Mcgee asked Nick "So Nick what did you want to talk about?" and he replied "Why do you think I wanted to talk about something?" "Well Nick, you sounded like you needed to talk about something and it's not that common that you invite me for breakfast so I thought that something was bothering you" "You're right Mcgee, I wanted to talk with you about something" "Sure what is it Nick?" "I'm afraid to lose her Mcgee, I don't want to lose her..." Mcgee cut him off "You won't lose her Nick, the doctors will help her and she will wake up and I'm confident about it " "But what if I do Mcgee, what if she dies , what if she'll never wakes up? I can't lose her, if I lose her I'll never be able to tell her what I wanted to tell her, all those times where I didn't tell her how I felt because I always thought that eventually I will tell her and now she could die and I still didn't tell her I just can't-" " I know Nick but you won't lose her, trust me"
Eventually Elaine came back with their breakfast and placed it on the table, "Thank you" said Nick and Mcgee "You're welcome" said Elaine and left the two of them alone again.
Nick and Mcgee talked for a while and then Mcgee said "My shift starts in 10 minutes, Nick, so I should get going" "Yeah sure, Mcgee" "I'll come visit Ellie after my shift ends but if you have any updates please call" "I will, Mcgee, I'll see ya later maybe" "Ok, bye Nick" "Bye Mcgee".
Mcgee left and headed to NCIS headquarters, Nick left a little bit after Mcgee did and headed to the hospital where he spent the rest of the day.
When Mcgee arrived at NCIS headquarters he went directly to his desk and started desk duty.
At some point Mcgee heard that the elevator doors have opened and looked at the person that was coming out of it, it was Gibbs holding two coffees and, since they didn't have a case , he headed to Jack's office and Mcgee continued to work.
Gibbs got in front of Jack's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in, it's open" Jack replied from inside, Gibbs entered the office and looked at Jack who was wearing her glasses and reading some files but when she heard the door open she looked up from the papers.
Gibbs smiled at her when she turned to look at him, " Oh hey,Cowboy" said Jack and Gibbs put her coffee on her desk "Thank you" she said and he replied "You're welcome" and smiled at her again and then he left.
The day was pretty boring, and for Gibbs also kinda annoying because they didn't have a case so everybody did desk duty all day long.
When the shift ended Mcgee said "Boss, I'm ganna go to the hospital to visit Bishop" "Ok Mcgee, good night" Gibbs replied "Good night, Boss" said Mcgee and then left and headed to the hospital.
