FOURTY THREE: NEWLYWEDS

Things were back to normal, I guess.
Father was back and as a changed man. He was happy on seeing Chisom and even became his best friend.

Daniel decided that we both would get married on New year day. Since we were engaged for months but without a ring. Funny.

Daniel wanted me to meet his family again. I was afraid that they would insult me again. But father stood beside me. He supported me.

Our traditional wedding would be on the thirty-first of December. Mama had dressed me up for the event. Mama agreed for us to use her compound.

The place was very noisy. Canopies had been arranged and traditional music was being played.

"You're so pretty." I heard one of my girls say.

"Thank you." I replied and stared into the mirror.

I looked so different.

"Is this really me?" I ask myself.

"Yes, Rosa. This is you." Jessica said and kissed my cheek. "You're lovely."

My bridal train were dressed too and waiting for me.

"Rosa." Mama came in and called me. "They are calling you."

I smiled and stood up. My traditional attire had a veil attached to it. Daniel was just magical. I felt like a princess right now.

We danced to Ada by Flavour. I danced out of the house and into the compound where guests were seated. I was overwhelmed. I could see Daniel seated among the crowd. He was wearing the same outfit as I was, but as a men's wear.

I danced towards my father and knelt down.

"My daughter." He said and kissed my forehead. He spoke words to the congregation and then took a glass cup.

"I will pour palm wine into this cup and you will give it to your husband." He said and poured the palm wine into the cup and handed the cup over to me.

I stood up and danced to a song by Oriental brothers. I moved around, looking for Daniel and then I found him. I saw him smile and I chuckled.

I went towards him and knelt down. I drank a little from the cup and then handed it over to him. He drank all of the wine and placed some money in it.
He raises my veil and stared into my eyes.

We danced towards my father and he blessed us. It was wonderful. I didn't know when I had started crying.

"Don't cry my love." He said and kissed my cheek.

There was a lot of celebration that followed. It was a memorable event. I was excited. I would be having my white wedding tomorrow. On the new year day.

Daniel and I sat on a chair at his balcony. We were spending the night at his place. It was just a few minutes to the new year.

"You're the best thing that has ever happened to me, Rosa." He said and I smiled.

"Me too, D." I replied and kissed his cheek.

Soon we began to hear fireworks. It was the New Year.

"Happy New Year Darling." Daniel said kissing my cheek.

"Happy New Year, D."

We went in to bed later on. I slept peacefully and happily.

My alarm began to ring. I sat up and put it off and cleaned my eyes.
Then I looked at the screen.

1st January, 2018
6:00am

"Oh my God, I'm getting married!" I screamed and ran into the bathroom.
I quickly showered and brushed my teeth. I put on a free flay gown.

I ran to the other side of the bed to tap Daniel.

"Wake up, it's our wedding day!" I screamed again.

"Please let me sleep a little." He begged but I pulled him off the bed.

I heard the house bell ringing and I ran down the stairs to open the door.

"Someone's eager to be married." Jessica cooed as she hugged me and came in with the make up artist.

"Babe, I can't find my slippers." We heard Daniel ask.

"No, no, no." Jessica said blocking Daniel from looking at me. "You can't look at your bride on the wedding day."

Daniel chuckled and then went inside.
Jessica took me to another room and sat me down.

"I'm excited, Jessy."

"You should be. You deserve the best." She replied and patted my shoulder.

4 hours later

I'm standing in front of the church. My bouquet of flowers in my hand. I smiled as I saw father walk up to me and link my arm with his.

"Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded in reply.

The wedding song began and we walked down the aisle. I saw him, my prince charming. He was staring at me.

Soon I was at his side and I was given away. Time flew past us as we exchanged our vows and exchanged rings.

"You may kiss the bride." The priest said and Daniel pulled the veil away from my face.

"I love you Rosa." He said and kissed me. I heard cheers and whistles. They were all clapping.

All I cared about was my family. We broke apart and stared at the congregation.

I stared at my son. He was clapping.

Only God knows who taught him how to clap.

I laughed and Daniel squeezed my hand lightly.

Then I said the words back.

"I love you too, D."
