TWENTY THREE: RIDICULE
It was evening. Madam had left and so did all the customers. I was cleaning a table when I felt a pair of hands on my waist.
"What are you doing?" I asked, turning round to see the owner.
It was Okon. One of the notorious young men.
"I'm so happy you're back, Rosa. I've always wanted to do this." He said and smacked my bottom.
"Stop this Okon. What is your problem?"
"Rosa, I want to enter your thing so bad." He said, pulling closer.
"Let me go, Okon. I'll scream." I said, pushing him away but it yielded no gain.
He grabbed me and smashed me against the plastic table behind me. I screamed out, my heart beating wildly in my chest.
"Okon, leave me alone. Help!" I shouted and fought against him.
He pulled out a handkerchief and placed it on my nose. I struggled to see for a while. Then I saw him pull me into the inner room of the restaurant and he closed the door.
"Rosanna!" I felt a heavy tap on my shoulder. "Rosanna!"
I opened my eyes slightly.
It was Madam."What happened to you?" She asked with a shaky voice. "Who did this to you?"
I looked at myself. I was covered with a blanket. My clothes in a heap on the floor and a few things thrown on the floor.
"I found you naked." She said and touched me. "Are you okay?"
"It...it was Okon." I said, looking at nothing. The tears threatened to fall but I didn't let it.
Madam turned my face slightly to see the bruise marks on my neck and shoulder.
"That stupid boy!" She screamed.
"We'll have to check your baby. We'll have to check if you're okay." She said and pulled me up.
As she walked with me, thoughts filled my head.
At nineteen, I had suffered so much...
Life wasn't fair. It really wasn't.
I'm unlucky. That's what all this meant...
I'm so unlucky..._________________
