THIRTY SIX: BIRTHDAY

The rays from the sun pierced through my eyes. I guess I had left the curtains open last night.

Daniel was here to see me last night. He was always happy to see me.

"I love you Rosanna."

I smiled and hugged myself. I looked at Chisom who was still asleep on his cot.

I stood up from the bed and walked towards the cot.

"I saw your father some days ago." I said and played with his toy.

"I was very upset. He denied me and everything that happened. If I was heartless, I would have disposed of you long ago." I said, my tears blurring my vision.

"But I didn't my son. You're still my child. Mine. Everyone loves you. I love you, Mama loves you, and Daniel loves you too. Daniel will be a good father." I said and kissed his little hand.

I turned around to see Mama staring at me.

"Good morning, Mama." I said and smiled. She looked very happy today.

"Morning my dear."

"Is something going on? You sound so excited." I said and hugged her.

"I'm excited but I'll keep quiet." She said and I frowned.

"What are you hiding from me, Mama?" I asked and she chuckled.

"Let's go biko. We have customers awaiting us today." She said and I laughed.

Mama left the room before me and I went out to the sitting room.

"SURPRISE!"

I was shocked. I looked around to see my few friends and workers.

"What's the surprise about?" I asked, dumbfounded.

"Even the celebrant forgot her birthday." I heard a deep Masculine voice say.

"My birthday." I replied and sighed.

Definitely I had forgotten my birthday. With the turn of events, I'd almost lost my mind.

"Happy birthday Nkem. My heartbeat. My love, my angel, my precious treasure. My jewel, my gold, my silver, everything I could ask for. The strongest beautiful Woman I've met. The prettiest flower on earth, Happy birthday." He said and I chuckled.

"Thank you, D." I replied and hugged him. "You didn't have to do all this."

"Of course I had to. You're my star." He said and I laughed.

"You tease me too much." I said and he bent in for a kiss.

"Stop." I said and pushed him and ran away.

I heard his laughter behind me and I ran into the small bathroom. 

Bathing and brushing took five minutes. I dressed up quickly and found Mama bathing Chisom. He was already awake and bubbling with laughter.

"Can I kiss you now?" I heard Daniel ask behind me.

I turned around to see him looking at me with so much amusement. I bent my head shyly and he kissed my cheek.

"Happy birthday once again Darling." He said and kissed me.

"Let's get to the cake, before it disappears." He said and pulled me with him, running through the corridors.

It was the best birthday ever...
