NINE: SOLD
They were tired of me already. Father was fed up and so was my so called step mother. She had always complained bitterly about me to my father. Nothing concerned him.
I never knew I was going to be sold. I knew the era of slave trade had evolved somehow. But I never knew I was going to go through that.
It was around Mid day when I saw a jeep drive into our compound. Father barely had visitors, so I was confused as to why there was a car.
A man and a lady alighted. They both looked scary. The man had a slight mark at the right side of his face.
"We're here to see your father." The man said.
"Good afternoon." I greeted. "He is inside."
They both went in while I sat outside. I heard my father's voice. He seemed excited and then I placed my ear on the door.
"Fifty thousand." I heard the man say.
"No, that's too small. She's a very beautiful and nice girl. She's worth over a hundred thousand."
Is father trying to sell me?
Azuka came behind me and pulled me towards my room.
"Pack your bags, my dear. You're leaving."
"Leaving to where?" I asked, staring hard at her.
"You're leaving my house, for good my dear. So pack your bags before I slap you."
"Please don't send me away. This is my father's house. I have no where to go."
"Don't worry my dear. Your buyers will treat you very nicely. They're good people ehn. You hear, so no need to panic." She said pushing me to pack my clothes.
"Please ma." I begged as she started folding my clothes into my bag.
"Azuka, is she ready?" I heard my father ask.
"She's getting ready honey." She replied.
I felt the tears dropping again. I was getting sold right under my nose.
Azuka pulled me out, and placed my bag in my hand.
The man and the woman smiled.
"She's ready. You can take her now." My father said and smiled.
Azuka led me to their car and helped me sit.
"Goodbye forever, Rosanna." She said and smirked. "I wish you a pain filled life."
"I pray God forgives both of you." I said and she walked away.
The man and the woman got into the car and began to drive off.
Another painful beginning.
