TWENTY ONE: ABA
I got to Aba hours later. I wasn't excited at all. I wanted to confront my idiotic father.
I got to our compound to find it very empty. I didn't even see a single goat. It was unusual.
But then something else met me. Our house had been demolished.
"Oh no!" I screamed, placing my head in between my hands. It means that they have left. I was so confused, really. I needed money, needed to work.
I held my bag closely in my arm and walked further into the town. I saw a few people stare at me. In shame I bowed my head.
There was a favorite restaurant my father always went to. I decided to check it out.
I went towards the restaurant, my heart beating wildly. I hoped the woman who worked there was still around.
I went in and eyes were all over me.
I was very insecure at that moment."Is that..."one tried to say but he was interrupted.
"Isn't that Rosanna?"
"Ah, they say that her father sold her. Maybe she escaped."
"Me I heard that he sold her into slavery."
"That man ehn, and he has run away oh." The other one replied.
I found the woman sitting away from her customers. Her big cheeks gave into a big smile as she was fiddling with her phone.
"Good...good morning ma." I stuttered.
She looked up. I could tell that she was shocked.
"Ro...Rosanna." She called.
"Ma." I replied.
"How are you dear? You just disappeared. Your father, that anu manu, God punish him where ever he is." She said raising her hand.
[Cow meat]"Ma, I've been through hell..." I said and she took me inside, making MW sit.
I was able to open up to her and tell her all that happened to me.
She sighed deeply and held my hand.
"You are a strong girl. I'll let you work here. That's the best I can do. You'll stay with me too." She said.
"Thank you so much ma." I said, kneeling down to touch her feet.
"Mba." She retorted. "You're like a child to me. Nwam."
[No. My child.]I was glad. At least I had someone who cared.
