"Mimmi is my twin sister."

Rob and Lauren sat there, wide-eyed. Lauren spoke first.

"What do you mean twin sister?!"

"I mean Mimmi and I are twins, you know, born at the same time, from the same parents."

Zac's parents had already explained to him that he was adopted. Rob seemed to come back to reality.

"So uhh how did you kids find this out?"

Zac and Mimmi looked at each other and raised their eyebrows. This was going to be long and complicated.

"Mum, dad. There is a secret I hid from you, something I had refrained from telling you for the past 2 years."

Rob and Lauren looked nervous.

"It all started on my camping trip with Cam, I went into the woods to take a leak when I saw this cave, inside it a glowing yellow light, naturally I was drawn to it, so I wandered inside. The walls of stone led me to a spot where stood a trident symbol on the wall, it glowed a vibrant blue. I decided to touch it, but when I did the floor opened up and I fell into a pool... of mermaids."

Rob and Lauren stared at their son before laughing.

Mimmi looked at Zac with a confused look.

"Hey hey mum, dad, what's so funny?"

Lauren spoke,
"Oh come on Zac, stop kidding around and tell us the truth already!"

"But- ugh ok mum, dad, you two are not allowed to speak until I'm done, deal?"

Rob put his hands up defensively as if saying, "Ok sure, give us the best you've got."

Zac sighed and continued,
"I woke up on the beach next morning and I didn't remember anything clearly from the previous night, the first bizarre thing I notice is that when I got back home and tried to wash my hands, I controlled or bent the water. I didn't think much of it until I jumped in a lake to go for a swim and my feet bound
together and formed a blue tail! Anyways, the mermaids that were present in the pool I fell into got in trouble because they had turned me into a merman by mistake. They failed to remove my tail and powers so the mermaid council brought in 2 new mermaids, Ondina and Mimmi."

He gestured his hand to Mimmi's direction, Mimmi smiled.

"They also failed to take away my powers, stuff happened and we found out that Mimmi's mum, Nerissa, a powerful mermaid had a son, which turned out to be me, meaning I always have been a merman. But mermen were considered as threats to mermaids, so they are sent to be raised on land. That's when Mimmi and I found out we were twins."

Rob and Lauren sat in silence, the expressions on their faces could have been because of them being clubbed over the head with a bat. Lauren then spoke.

"Listen Zac, I would love to believe you, but don't you realize how ridiculous you sound?"

Zac looked at Mimmi and nudged his chin in the direction of a full glass of water on his coffee table. Mimmi shrugged her shoulders and nodded. Rob and Lauren were confused. Zac broke the silence,

"If you want proof, here it is."

He raised his palm to the glass and made the water levitate out, Lauren put a hand to her heart and Rob stared. Zac then stood up and threw the water ball to Mimmi, where she caught it in mid-air and split it into two. She then threw one at Zac and they put the water back into the glass where the water balls combined back into one.

The silence in the room was uncomfortable. Until Lauren spoke,

"That was bizarre! Welcome to the family Mimmi!"
She got up and hugged Mimmi, "Oh I always wanted a daughter!"
Zac and Mimmi laughed.

Zac and Mimmi then looked at Rob,
"I don't believe this"

"Rob, they controlled water in front of our very eyes, are you really that daft?"

Mimmi whispered into Zac's ear,
"Do you think we should show them our tails?"
"I guess we have to."
Zac sighed
"Mum, dad, Mimmi and I would like to show you just one more thing."

Lauren seemed interested, Rob was a little interested too.

Zac grabbed two tiny water balls from the cup of water and splashed them onto himself and Mimmi, within seconds they felt their feet bind together and they toppled over forward. Lauren screamed and Rob gasped.

Zac looked at Mimmi in pain and saw that she had the same pained expression.
"We should have planned this better sis"
