Pride Rock was, once again in its turbulent existence, surrounded by flames, as three young lionesses and a cub tried to make their way away from the enormous structure.
"Shouldn't we bring more distance between us and Pride Rock, instead of sneaking around it?", Zuri asked quietly, as they were now directly behind it, trying to get to the other side."Well, our pride roared in defeat, which means, that they most likely retreated afterwards and told all animals, that could hear the roar, to stay away from Pride Rock. So the outlanders wouldn't expect someone to still be around and would be searching farther away", Kiara whispered. "Also, we kind of need to get to the other side of Pride Rock, because if we try to leave on this side, we would leave the pridelands and enter the outlands. If we try to get away from Pride Rock from the other side, we will exit the pridelands and get to the backlands, which I really prefer as an escape route. Of course, we could run away from Pride Rock first and then try to turn around and avoid it, but then we would more likely get into the area, where the outlanders would be searching for pridelanders."
"Sounds like a good point", Zuri admitted, as they crawled underneath a fallen tree, so they didn't expose themselfes by climbing above it.
"So you think it would be best to get out of the pridelands entirely?", Tiifu , who was the furthest behind, asked Kiara.
"Yes, for the moment at least. We need to get a better idea of what's happening right now and we should get to a spot, where we can be relatively save for some time. Staying in the pridelands isn't a save option right now", Kiara responded. "How is Wajanja doing?", she asked Zuri, who had the cub on her back.
"He fell asleep, apparently", Zuri responded.
"Good, just be careful, that he doesn't fall off", Kiara told her and continued her way. They made their way past a small fire, when Tiifu made a surprised sound. She speed up quickly and looked at Zuri's shoulder.
"Zuri, your lion guard mark is gone", she said confused. Zuri turned her head and looked at her shoulder.
"What the... you're right. When did that happen?", she asked, just as confused as Tiifu was and looked at her friend. "Yours is gone as well", she noticed, which caused Tiifu to look at her own shoulder, to discover, that her mark had also disappeared."This thing isn't supposed to disappear at random, right?", Zuri asked uncertainly.
"Maybe Fuli joined the rest of the guard tonight and this caused our marks to disappear?", Tiifu started to speculate, but not really believing what she was saying herself.
"Guys, I know this is weird, but we don't have time for this right now", Kiara interrupted them, as they all had stopped because of this. As her friends noticed this, they lowered their heads, ashamed, that they had somehow gotten caught up with something like this during such a situation."Sorry", they both said simultaniously and they got moving again. They had now started to leave Pride Rock behind them. They could hear screams in the distance, which sent shivers down their spines. The three of them were looking around, looking for outlanders, they had to avoid, but while doing this, they also could see the damage to the pridelands. Large areas were burned or still on fire and a lot of ash was tossed around in the wind. There were however enough spots left, that hadn't been touched by the flames and provided good cover, which was why Kiara, Tiifu and Zuri stuck close to these places. They seemed to be lucky, as no outlanders could be seen anywhere around. But this didn't calm them down that much, as they would have prefered to know, where the enemy was, to avoid him.
Almost on cue, two lionesses showed up some distance in front of them and running in their direction. As they weren't running straight at them, but at an angle, that would lead past them instead, the three lionesses lied down on the ground very quickly, as they apparently had not been seen by the outlanders. They were proven right, when the outlanders passed and the trio let out a breath of relieve. They stood up again and left the grass, they had just hidden in, to get to the next covered area.
"Well, well, look at that", a voice suddenly appeared behind them and they spun around. Nne stood upon a fallen and burned tree and looked down at them, before jumping down and stalking towards them, Tano showing up right next to him. "Looks like we found our jackpot", Nne continued and chuckled, looking at Tiifu and Zuri, who backed away slowly.
"We are gonna get your blood. Just like my brother promised", Tano now joined in. "Which one do you want to kill?", he asked.
"The one with the cub on her back", Nne responded and looked at Zuri, who cowered down in fear.
"Got it, I'll take out the other one. Then we can take care of the princess", Tano said and got closer to Tiifu. The three lionesses wanted to run, but with a cub on her back, Zuri would be slowed down and until she would get it off, so she could grab it with her mouth, the hyenas most likely would have caught up. And even if not, if they couldn't catch them, they could call for other outlanders, while the pridelanders were on their own.
Then, a shadow flew over them and crashed into Tano, knocking him into the ground.
"Get away from my daughter", Tahadhari hissed and leaped towards Nne, pinning him.
"Mom", Tiifu yelled and Tahadhari looked towards her. Her front left leg appeared to be broken. Tano pounced on her and got her off of Nne, who now also stood up.
"Hey! We got pridelanders here!", Nne yelled as loudly as he could and then he and Tano split up, to attack the wounded lioness from two sides."Run!", Tahadhari yelled. "Get to safety!"
"But, Mom...", Tiifu began.
"Go!", Tahadhari said in a harsh voice, before looking back at her daughter, love being visible in her eyes. "I love you." The both hyenas tried to take the opportunity and charged, but Tahdhari evaded Tano and swiped at Nne, drawing blood from his side. The two lionesses from before showed up again in the distance and Kiara and Zuri turned around and started running, Zuri relocating Wajanja, so she could move faster. Tiifu stood frozen for a moment, seing her mother defend her, despite being wounded, but also being overwhelmed by her two opponents. Then she also turned around and made a run for it.
