Love come forteth like sunshine after rain, but lust's effect is tempest after sun,...

-William Shakespeare-(Venus and Adonis)
I pulled the brush through my hair and watched as the wavy curls bounced back and forth along my shoulders.
Once I was done, I placed the brush down and stared at my reflection in the mirror.
Who am I?
Did that question even have an answer? I asked myself. I shut my eyes and sighed. It probably didn't.
Looking back I realized I've never really lived for anything. No cause…no vision…no destination. Just a reed tossed to and fro by the tide. My lips trembled.
God…I need answers.
I swallowed and blinked carefully so as not to let the tear drop unto my face and spoil my makeup. I had to divert my thoughts because if not, I might end up with a sore throat, swollen eyes and angry husband by morning. Why? Because, I'd just curl up in bed with my sad thoughts and definitely miss the party thereby setting Asher's temper tantrum on fire.
Such damages can be prevented by a simple thought diversion.
So, doing just that (diverting), I pushed back my chair and stood up to have a full view of my dress.
It was a short navy blue one, a few inches above my knees. The entire bodice was covered in tiny black crystal stones such that the dress glittered with every slight movement. At the foot of the bed lay my shoes…a pair of suede black stilletos. I walked over and sat down on the bed bending foward to strap them on.
Just then a knock sounded on the door and I looked up. I assumed it would be Tope come to help me pin up my hair since I told her to earlier while having lunch downstairs.
"Come in!" The lock clicked and opened. Sure enough, it was her.
"The pins are in that drawer. Make it simple but classy…you know it's a formal dinner." I instructed and adjusted my position on my bed where I sat…I didn't feel like returning to the dressing table.
"Okay ma." In a few minutes, she had gotten what she needed from the drawers and so she placed them beside me on the bed and began working on the curls. I held up my phone and opened the selfie camera in order to see what she was doing.
She pinned a few locks from the front to the back but left a few strands to fall down in front. For the curls at the back, I seemed to be satisfied with the look and told her to let them be.
I already had my makeup done myself and so with that, I was done.Watching YouTube makeup tutorial videos had finally paid off.
"Thank you." I thanked her and got up to get my hand bag.
Courtesying briefly, she packed up the hair tools and returned them before turning and exiting the room leaving me alone to prepare to leave.
I searched my bag to make sure I wasn't leaving behind anything of importance. Once I was sure, I made for the door and opened it, locking it behind me but making sure to leave the key in the lock.
My pair of heels weren't so high, but becuase the stairs were made from polished marble, I had to be careful. Stilletos have never been known for very good grip…definitely not on polished marble. Bearing this in mind, I gingerly descended the flight of stairs but all the while looking down at my feet to make sure I wasn't about to miss a step.
When I reached the bottom, I looked up and Asher was just walking by…obviously coming from the sitting room toward the doors.
Then he stopped in his tracks and turned. The look on his face told me he was probably about to dish out some cutting remark or the other concerning God knows what. It's like he never runs out of holes to pick once I'm in the picture.
