The first bond of society is marriage

"Charlie!!" My head snapped sideways in the direction of my name.
Waving furiously among the crowd was Seyi, my best friend. I smiled once our eyes locked and waved back. She began cutting her way through the crowd to meet me as I descended the stairs of the plane. I tried to keep my eyes on her so I didn't lose track of her in the crowd.
She hadn't changed a bit; not that I expected her to change much in two months but still. She still wore her signature hairstyle, black braids that extended down to her waist with her attire ever casual. Seyi was the only person who could rock a casual outfit even to work and it won't look out of place. I laughed inwardly, Seyi Seyi.

"See my baby looking fresh o." Seyi laughed once I reached the bottom of the stairs and my head shook in laughter as I dropped my bag to free my hands so I could hug her.

"You too nau." I laughed as she wrapped her hands around me.

"Stop it jhor. What is fresh in how I'm looking ehn? Is it not the same me you left here? I no follow you go Paris na." She switched to pidgin laughing and I joined in.

"Abeghi! You still look fine." I countered her statement and she pulled back cocking an amused eyebrow at me before smiling.

"Hmm, if you say so o." I shook my head as she helped me carry one of my bags and I carried the other.

We went to clear my luggage before heading to her car at the parking lot.

"Have you eaten?" She looked at me before pushing the trunk of her Toyota Corolla shut securing my luggage. I knew she just wanted to give me a treat but I'd rather she spent her money on herself and more important things since her part time job didn't give her so much to spare.

"No, but I'm not hungry." I shook my head before slipping into the passenger seat and pulling the door shut.

"When will you allow me to buy you something you dis geh. You know I'm not some broke pauper who is always looking for food in the dustbin. I can at least afford to treat my friend to lunch." She smirked at me and I laughed caressing my forehead.

"But I said I'm not hungry nau. I just alighted a plane and you don't think they would have given me food there?" I shrugged with a mischievous glint in my eye seeing I had caught her once again.

Actually, I had only eaten a little, just enough to quell my hunger at that moment. In earnest, I could use a little food now, but there's no way I'm letting her know that.

Just then, my stomach growled loudly and I clutched it snapping my head immediately in her direction to see if she'd noticed. Looking at me, she burst into laughter.

"At least God is on my side with this one." She pointed at me still laughing and I rolled my eyes joining in.

"Okay you win." I raised my hands in surrender.

"Don't worry, just one lunch treat won't empty my bank account and besides, I just got a raise in my salary for hard work and all that." She smirked and reached casually to slot the key into the ignition like she didn't just say what she said.

"What? Oh my God that's wonderful!!" I squealed pulling her to me in a crushing hug.

"Yeah, so now I can buy you lunch without you having a heart attack." She mumbled under my hug before pulling away.

The car bustled to life as she turned the key.

"Give me a break, I already said you won nau."  I laughed and looked out of the window as she pulled out of the parking lot.
