-Love has nothing to do with what you're expecting to get...only what you're expecting to give...which is everything-

-Katherine Hepburn-

"

Charlie! You didn't tell me you were coming!" The soft but clear voice of Mrs. Okafor rang through from behind me and I looked up from my phone. Smiling, I dropped the phone on the leather sofa and rose falling into her outstretched arms.

"Good afternoon ma." I smiled.

"How are you my dear?" She squeezed hard as she embraced me for what seemed like eternity.

"I'm fine. I'm fine." She let go of me finally and we sat back on the sofa.

"You look it."

"We thank God." I laughed.

"We thank God." She iterated and furrowed her brows in concentration as she nodded. "I like that."

"See now, I didn't prepare anything for you because you didn't tell me you were coming."

"Ah ahn, Mrs Okafor! I'm the one supposed to be helping you to prepare food, not you preparing for me nau." I explained dramatically.

"Mrs Okafor keh! Please call me Chidinma o! Heuw! Somebody will hear you now and be thinking I'm your boss."

"Okay I won't call you Mrs Okafor again. Oya Aunty Chidinma...is that okay?" I gave her an amused look.

"It's better like that." Sh flipped her loose curls over her shoulder and tucked a few strands behind her left ear. "So, you have news I see."

I looked at her with a puzzled expression on my face.

"What?"

"You have something you want to share. That's why you came isn't it?" She smirked knowingly at me and I laughed.

"Well y..yes I do have some sort of news if you could call it that, but I also came to see you."

"I know that. So what is the good news about?" She raised her legs and planted them comfortably by her side on the sofa as she nuzzled in looking like a little kid hungry for a bedtime story.

"How did you know I had something to say though?" I adjusted my bag to create more space on the seat.

"Firstly, the big guy up there..." She pointed upwards. "...and you're looking extra radiant today."

"Ha!" I laughed.

"I'm serious honey." Suddenly, her face deepened as she seemed to be trying to remember something. "Ehen! I've remembered...do you want a drink?"

"Okay." I shrugged. "The weather is even hot sef." I made a show of flapping my hands against my face to create a torrent of breeze.

"I can turn on the AC. Me, I don't like cold and so I always turn of the AC when I'm around." She got up and picked up the remote from the centre table to regulate the split unit. "And I know it's not because the weather is hot that you're agreeing to soft drink." She turned and winked suggestively at me.

"Ah ahn. What is it again?"

"You like junk food too much. That one is already too obvious." She continued.

"Ewo!" I placed my hands on my head.

"You can pretend all you want. It won't change anything my dear." She laughs and returns the remote after making sure I was satisfied with the room temperature. Afterwards, she pulled out her phone to dial a number placing it to her ear as she walked back to sit beside me.
