Making new friends is hard. Part of me doesn't even want to make new friends. I was perfectly content with my friends from the Lost Cities.

I take out my math textbook from my locker and close it, making sure I lock it behind me.

Then I head into room 107. I try my best to concentrate in class. But some days are harder than others.

Today the numbers swim before my eyes and I just want to close them and drift off into the world of dreams.

Biana snap out of it, I tell myself sternly.

We have to do well in college. It shouldn't be so hard. Once I get the concept down I can apply it to a bunch of problems.

I reach for my side bag and pull out my coffee.

I unscrew the cover that keeps the lip of the cup closed.

My cup was a gift to me from Fitz as a good luck in college sentiment. I love it and bring it to school with me every day. It looks like a classic to-go cup except it's nicer and it's a thermos. He personalized it so it says Biana in scrip letters and is sparkly and silver.

Silver.

Like Tam's eyes.

I miss him. I miss all of my friends.

Enough! I once again mentally scold myself.

With continual sips of coffee to keep me alert, I manage to get through the rest of the class.

On my way out a poster on the bulletin board catches my attention.

It's colorful.

Attention, it reads, there's a new club called Mythical Creatures. Please sign up below if you are interested.

Now that sounds exciting.

Tonight, we go to Boomers. We being Keefe (ugh), Sophie, Linh, and myself.

I put on a pair of dark jeans and a black T-shirt for the occasion.

"But that's what you pretty much always wear," Linh reminds me.

Whatever.

They say some places look more beautiful at night, and Boomer's is definitely one such place. Everything is lit up, which contrasts against the inky black sky.

"What should we do first?" Linh asks

"I think we should go on the Ferris wheel," says Sophie pointing to an illuminated wheel of doom.

Linh looks at me and I nod in agreement. I tell myself it will be fine. That I hope not to vomit.

Keefe and Sophie sit on one side of the pod and Linh and I on the other. As we are lifted off the ground, Linh squeezes my hand reassuringly. I think she's being a little dramatic but its fine. I don't know what I would do without her. She takes such good care of me, and I try to do the same.

After the Ferris wheel, we head for the boats. Linh and I take one, Sophie and Keefe take the other. Linh wanted to girls in one and boys in the other, but there was no way I was sharing a boat with Keefe. Besides, I want to spray him with the attached water gun at the front of the small boat.

And spray him I do.

I laugh at his expression. The first time I laughed in a very long time.

Of course, Keefe retaliates, but I'm ready for him, with one hand gripping the controls and the other on the trigger.

We continue to fight water with water until Sophie gets wet and tells us to cut it out.

After that, Linh wants to go on the rotating swing ride, but I sit it out. Keefe takes a jab at me because of it but I just ignore him.

I'm lucky I didn't vomit after the Ferris wheel and I don't want to tempt fate again.
