*Sophie*
I am exhausted. And sweaty.
These dogs don't give me a moment to catch my breath. They enjoy running after squirrels and pulling me along with them. Three dogs are too strong for me.
Even when they pant they keep going.
The only time they stop is when they need the bathroom. And that's honestly the worst part.
I miss the alicorns and other animals back in Havenfield. I wish I could have brought the survivors to the forbidden cities, but it wasn't going to work. Now some elves who refused to leave are taking care of them.
I honestly wish I can quit this job. Dog walking isn't for me. I don't get the people who enjoy this. I guess one dog is fine but any more that is too much.
Just when I think I'm going to pass out from dehydration I pass by ExPresso shots. I hope they sell something refreshing. I would kill for a cold drink right now.
I squeeze myself and the three dogs through the narrow doorway. Of course, they start barking like crazy and my cheeks burn as the customers glare in my direction.
"What can I get you?" The guy behind the counter asks. But not just any guy. Tam.
"Oh my G-d Tam!!" I scream as if I didn't cause enough noise already. Then I reach over the wooden counter and embrace him.
He's the first elf (aside from my parents) that I have seen since I've come here, and I'm overwhelmed with emotion.
"Good to see you too," Tam says, "but Keefe is there," He points behind his shoulder.
Keefe is here. Keefe is here.
My heart pounds in my ears.
*Keefe*
I'm just biting through my third toothpick today when I hear commotion. Who dares ruin my peace and quiet? Tranquility and relaxation?
I reluctantly get up from my comfortable seat to see what the issue is.
Then I stop in my tracks.
Without my permission, my Mouth opens wide and I'm glued to my spot as I lay eyes on Sophie.
"Real smooth," Tam whisper hisses in my ear,
"Like you do much better around your crush," I retort.
"I do."
I groan because he's right.
I promised myself that next time I see Sophie that I will tell her how I feel, but my courage flees from me.
"It's s good to see you," Sophie tells me
"It's great to see you too," I reply honestly.
I smile and she smiles back.
I then shake out my thoughts and question, "so what brings you here?"
"I could really use a cold drink."
I then notice how red she is. So it's not blush it's from the heat.
If only I had the same excuse.
"Hey Tam please make Sophie a large, iced tea." I turn to Tam then back to Sophie, "and grab a water bottle from the cooler too please."
"Yes, Keefe," Tam grumbles.
"And it's on the house." I wink at Sophie.
