Chapter 17 - Zari, Not Zari

3rd Person POV

"Yeah, sorry, I'm not gonna be much help." Brooklyn says with a shrug, looking at the panel of wires Behrad had open in the wall of the hallway. She takes a sip of her water, having just come back from working out. "Jax was better at this. He tried to teach me but this is out of my area."

"That's alright." Behrad says before the two hear footsteps. Zari rounds the corner in her PJs and gasps. "You're up early." Behrad notes

"Um..." Zari draws out. "What are you doing?"

"Looks like somebody was playing Operation with Gideon's mainframe." Behrad says. "Or maybe it was something. You think they have raccoons in the Temporal Zone?"

"Actually, Mr. Tarazi, it was–" Giden tries

"Snooze, Gidget!" Zari exclaims, cutting the AI off

Nate runs into the hallway, pulling to a stop next to Zari. "Hey. You left this in my bedroom."

Behrad and Brooklyn share a look before Behrad stands. "Oh."

"Well, looky-looky." Charlie says, walking into the hallway

"We did not hook up." Zari says at the same time Nate says, "We didn't hook up."

"It doesn't have to be a walk of shame if you enjoyed it." Charlie says. "But, if you are walking at all, you didn't enjoy it enough." Brooklyn gags and Charlie looks at her. "Reminding you once again, you have a baby, she is the product of–"

"Gross, Charlie." Zari cuts her off

"Hey, B, uh." Nate says. "Me and Z did not do... you know... the nasty."

"This is a judgment-free zone." Behrad tells the two of them. "I'm not one to shame the sexual activity of two consenting adults."

"Shame's a good thing." Mick says, walking in with a teddy bear. "Keeps you from hooking up with someone and ending up the parent of a 16-year-old daughter." He says before portalling out

Constantine portals in. "Oh, ooh, well, what naughty business have I stumbled across, then?" He asks

"Uh, nothing." Zari stammers. "We just... we like, um, hanging out in hallways."

Brooklyn looks around at the group. "Well, this hallway's busy, huh?" She notes

"Good-bye." Zari says quickly, leaving

"Well, then, Charlie." Constantine says. "We have some business to attend to, love."

"We do." Charlie agrees. "But first, whiskey."

"All right, then." Constantine says

"A stiff drink may indeed be in order. I have some rather unfortunate news for you, Charlie." Gideon announces to Charlie. Brooklyn watches as Charlie's body language and facial expression change while she receives the news. Brooklyn rushes to get Sara and Ava

Brooklyn, Sara, and Ava run into the parlor where Charlie is sitting, drinking and crying

"Charlie." Ava calls to her. "Brooke came and got us, we heard. Look, the Prognosticator's scanning the timeline for Encore activity. Trust me, we're gonna figure out who's responsible for this."

"This wasn't the work of an Encore." Charlie says. "This was my sister, Atropos."

"How can you tell?" Ava asks

Charlie grabs the newspaper. "The victim was burnt from the inside." Charlie reads. "She's a god. That's her signature move."

"Well, I'm sorry about your friends, Charlie, but, uh, your sister just fired one hell of a warning shot." Constantine says, walking in. "Now we need to get back out there and find that Loom piece before she does."
