Chapter 12 - Ray And His Theory

3rd Person POV

"So you're saying Brooke has a fever because Maddie has a fever?" Sara questions, summing up the brief explanation Ray had given the group in the library

"And here comes my theory." Ray says. "Maddie is the baby of Jax and Brooklyn. Jax is half of FIRESTORM, a meta who was psychically linked to another meta. Now, I think that Maddie inherited that link and she is linked to her mother."

"You're telling me whatever happens to me happens to Maddie?" Brooklyn asks, remembering how the link worked with Jax and Stein. "That's a sucky life for that little girl." She says, looking over to the baby monitor on the desk. Maddie was sleeping in the medbay and Ava was in there, watching over her to make sure nothing drastic happened while the others talked

"No." Ray says. "You and Maddie share a link but my theory is that you are connected to Maddie but Maddie isn't connected to you. This is going to be the most awkward thing to explain but you only had sex with Jax, not FIRESTORM." He says to which Brooklyn's cheeks flare up with red color. "That's why I think the powers only work one way."

"Yo, that actually does make sense." Nate says, walking into the room with Behrad and Zari

"Have you guys been listening this whole time?" Brooklyn asks the three

"Yes." Zari says. "And I am completely judging you that you had a baby with someone by the name of 'FIRESTORM'. Like what, was he a punk rocker or something?"

"Okay, so she obviously didn't listen correctly." Behrad says before he turns to Brooklyn. "But yes, we were listening. And guess who called the psychic link? Me!" He says, raising his hands victoriously

"But I don't have powers." Brooklyn tells the group. She looks at Ray. "I can't have powers. I don't have the meta gene. Jax was the one with the gene."

"Right." Ray says

"So why am I the one with the 'meta link' or whatever you called it?" Brooklyn questions

"I believe that with you being the mother and, in FIRESTORM's case of darwinism, the one to be the most evolved, you're the one with the link to Maddie." Ray explains to her

"But she doesn't have powers..." Felicity says, trailing off as more of a question

"Right." Ray says. He looks at Brooklyn. "I'm saying you have maternal instincts...on steroids." He tells her. "Maddie has powers that connect you to her. You don't have powers. Just like with Jax and Stein, you're going to be able to feel her through your link but you will never need to physically link because you are not Jax and Stein. In FIRESTORM's darwinism, Maddie is nowhere near the 'most evolved' out of the two of you which is why her link connects the two of you but you're the only one who can feel the link...if that makes sense." 

Brooklyn was trying to follow. "Does...does that mean Maddie's going to have fire powers?" Brooklyn asks in a whisper, her mind whirling from all the new information she was given

"Oh, can you imagine?" Nate says. "That would be so cool!"

"The Littlest Legend could be out in the field with us." Behrad says excitedly. "Blasting bad guys with fire!"

"Guys, she's one." Zari says, bringing them back to reality

In any other situation, Brooklyn would have entertained the boys in their fantasies and even played along with them. But right now, she needed to know everything she could about her baby and her baby's future. She looks at Ray, her eyes watery, and Ray reads her look
