Chapter 8 - A Head of Her Time

3rd Person POV

"Interim Captain Sharpe here." Ava's voice announces over the intercom. Brooklyn listens in, dressing Maddie for the day. "Team meeting in the parlor, over and out." She says. "Okay, that was good. It was fun yet to the point." She says, her voice still over the intercom and Brooklyn smiles. "Not too...Gideon, are you broadcasting this?"

"Sorry, Miss Sharpe, I'll shut it down." Gideon tells her and the intercom goes silent

"Oh, this should be fun." Brooklyn says, picking up Maddie and resting her on her hip. She makes her way to the bridge

"We women have to stick together." Ava says as Brooklyn enters from one side

"I always thought of you as one of the guys." Nate says, entering from the other side with Behrad

"Okay, I don't know what that means." Ava says

"He means that as a compliment." Behrad tells her

"I do." Nate says

"Okay." Ava says, putting a colorful lei around Nate's neck. "That's for you." She says and then does the same for Behrad. "That's for you. And..." She turns to Brooklyn, holding up two colorful leis, one smaller than the other. "I even got one for the baby."

"Alright!" Behrad exclaims. "Little Legend's got one too!" He exclaims, grabbing the lei from Ava and rushing over to put it on Maddie

"Why do we need these?" Brooklyn asks as Ava hands her the lei. Brooklyn holds it in her hand, watching Behrad put the smaller one carefully around Maddie's neck who smiles and laughs

Zari walks into the bridge on her phone. "What did I say about phones?" Ava tells her

"What?" Zari questions. "I need to tell my boyfriend I'm not dead."

"Uh, boyfriend?" Nate asks

"Yep, internationally renowned DJ S'more Money." Zari tells him

The door opens and Ray walks in. "Ah, okay, we've got Ray." Ava says. "Uh, where's Mick?"

"He's sick." Ray says. "Lovesick." He says with a laugh. Ava holds up the lei. "Oh, lei." He says excitedly, bowing his head so Ava could put it around his neck

"So while Sara's in Star City, I wanted to introduce you all to something that I developed at the Time Bureau." Ava tells the group, grabbing a bunch of binders off the table. "I know what you're all thinking, Time Bureau, #stuffy. What can we learn from those guys? But we really did have a lot of fun over there." She says, beginning to hand out the binders. "Do you remember taco Mondays, Nate?"

"Yeah, uh, those were some wild taco times." Nate says

"Yeah." Ava says, handing out more binders. She gets to Brooklyn who has one arm around Maddie and the lei in her other hand. "Get in the spirit, Brooke." She tells her. "Put the lei around your neck."

"Um..." Brooklyn whispers, looking at the group before she looks at Ava again. "I don't have the best, um, experience from my past with things around my neck." She says

"Okay, I'll hold it for you." Ava says quickly, taking the lei from Brooklyn. "Um, you can share a binder for now." She says, noting that Brooklyn's has her hands full with a baby

"Aloha?" Ray questions, reading off the binder

"Yes!" Ava exclaims, facing the whole group again and thankful for the segue. "A.L.O.H.A. It stands for assess, listen, observe, hydrate, attack!" She exclaims, slamming the binder shut and the boys in the group jump. Brooklyn and Zari share a look. "See?"
