She kisses my cheek and sighs into my shoulder. My thumb rubs against her arms wrapped around me and I turn my head to kiss her temple. Then we sit there in silence for a while. It was a comfortable silence and we stared at the open sky above the clouds in front of us. The clouds changed colors as the sunset formed before us. It was a calming moment I was starting to enjoy until my nagging thinking started up again.
"I can't do it. I can't face everyone right now. I don't want to share, not yet," I say out loud, breaking the silence.
"It's okay Hiccup. You don't have to. Everyone is going to be curious, you know that. They can't help asking questions."
I sigh and try to calm the panic rising in my chest.
"We can land right in front of your house and lock you in there. I can tell everyone that you are okay and you will share what happened later on but for then you need your rest. I'll get Gothi to help with your injuries-"
"Our injuries," I cut in.
"Okay, our injuries, and I'll find Valka if she isn't already at the house. How does that plan sound?"
"It's music to my ears," I exclaim as my nerves calm and I start to get excited to see my mom again. She must be worried sick.
We dive under the clouds and Stormfly follows behind. I can see Armpit Island ahead of us which means we are only an hour from Berk.
I start to focus on the throbbing pain in my leg. It's a bearable pain that I have forgotten about because I've gotten so used to it. I can't wait to get it fixed though. Thinking about my injuries reminds me about Astrid, but right before I say something I hear her groan behind me and bury her face in my back.
"Hey what's wrong?"
She groans again before responding.
"Headache is back." She mumbles. Now that the shock of the past events wore off a little I can tell that the physical injuries are coming back to us.
"How's your wrist?"
"Hurts. Think I broke it."
She answers in short sentences obviously in discomfort from her headache. Wait, she said its back. Does that mean she's had it when she was held captive? Then what caused it? I'd ask her but I can tell that she really doesn't have the energy to talk so I keep my mouth shut.
I just hope we can make it back to Berk before anything else starts to hurt.
