Shadow's POV

I finally found Sonic's location. I wasn't about to let him die on me again. In his condition, I could only hope that he was still alive and well.
I slipped into the base without triggering any alarms. I made it inside the main hall of the base and we're stunned, the walls were smeared with blood all over, I had a heavy feeling on my chest as the coat of blood just seemed to grow thicker as we walked down the corridors. That's when I heard his frail voice.

"No... I won't let you hurt anyone anymore!" Sonic's voice was cut off by a yelp of pain and a strong thud. I activated my hover boots and dashed off, following his voice. Please hold on a little longer Sonic! I made it to a door, blood was coming out from under it, mixing with old blood. Panicked I was about to break the door down when I heard him.

"Shadow?! It sure is great to see a familiar face." I looked back to him. He didn't have any signs of trauma to him. I pulled him closer to me as the gruesome thoughts were still fresh. I couldn't lose him again. Not now.

"Sh-Shad?! Hey... Everything okay?" Sonic asked worried. I let go of him, did he forget he was taken?

That's when I realized, all of Sonic's mechanical replacements were missing...

How?

I looked at the blood stained door as it opened. What I saw, made me freeze on the spot. There was another Sonic, dead on the floor, standing over it was a robot that looked like Sonic. What's going on here? Sonic seemed to be in just as much shock when he saw everything. We entered the room and the robot version of Sonic locked eyes with me. It didn't seem responsive. It just stared.

"Shadow, what a surprise. How nice of you to join us. What do you think of Metal Sonic?" I heard the doctors voice on the intercom. Metal Sonic? Is this... My Sonic? I lowered my ears as I approached him with caution.

"Shadow be careful!" The other Sonic called out. Metal Sonic averted his attention from me to the Sonic behind me and immediately attacked. Metal Sonic accelerated so much faster than the Sonic I knew.
I was stunned for a moment but quickly went after him to stop him. I knew this other Sonic wasn't the Sonic I grew to love but seeing him struggle still made me go to him instinctually. I managed to free him away from Metal Sonic and I restrained him.

"Stop this." I ordered. Metal Sonic didn't respond, he only stared for a moment seemingly stunned. I felt a sharp pain as he had knocked the wind out of me and threw me aside. I caught my breath but just as before he avoided me and went straight for his counterpart. Metal Sonic grabbed Sonic by the foot when he avoided a spin dash and used the momentum against him as he slammed Sonic on the floor below. His cry of against was enough to make me go to him and save him from another blow from Metal Sonic. This was the moment I realized, I lost him. There was no trace of recognition in his face. This was going to be a losing fight. We were both out of our element and had very little information on the current target. As much as I hated it. I needed to leave. My objective was to bring Sonic back... I'll have to improvise. I pulled Sonic too his feet and dashed out of the room with him, using chaos spear to break the closed doors down. Metal Sonic followed us out.

I didn't want to attack him, so instead I avoided everything I could but if he got to close I would use a chaos spear to make him back away, but I never really hit him.

Running was my only solution until I had more information. If this really was my Sonic, I couldn't bring myself to hurt him. After I made it out of the base I looked back to see Metal Sonic standing at the entrance, unmoving, watching the false Sonic and I leave.
Once we were a good distance I had us stop to rest. All I could think about was what was now Metal Sonic. What happened to him? I should've never left him alone, I should have stood by during the attack at Twinkle Park. This is my fault.
