Sonic POV

I couldn't help but stare at the daffodils Shadow gave me. I wondered what this was supposed to mean? Did it mean mean anything? Or was I just thinking too much on this?
"Did Shadow give you those?" Rouge asked as she placed the cup I assumed was my hot cocoa on the bedside table.

"Yeah... I'm not even she why he brought me these?" I said confused. Rouge came to inspect them as well
"This is unlike him?" She took one from me and inspected it carefully.
"He hand picked these." She stated as she carefully rotated the daffodil, she handed it back to me and looked at the rest, I wasn't sure what she expected to find but once she was satisfied she spoke up again. "He really went out of his way to pick you some flowers. That's so sweet of him. Did he say why he got you them?"
I shifted awkwardly at her sudden interest. "He just said he thought I'd like these and handed them to me. He didn't really say much of anything else."
She gave a small smile but I shrugged it off.
"I don't think he meant much with these. He just had his usual blank face when he came in. He also left the first chance he got." Saying this all outloud seemed to bring out mixed feelings. I was happy that Shadow was trying to show he cares but, it also didn't make much sense. Maybe he was just forcing himself to be nicer.
"Or maybe he left because I interrupted something." Rouge said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes at this.
"Rouge what could you possibly have interrupted?" I said doubtful.
"I dunno, but Shadow is a very private person when it comes to anything that has even the slightest bit of emotion." She said as she took a drink out of her cup. I picked up my cup and began to carefully drink it as I tried to figure out what to do with my thoughts. This made things a little more interesting.
"Oh, before I forget. Tails said wanted to talk to you in private tomorrow. He wouldn't tell me what it was but it seemed important." Rouge said. My ears perked up at this, what could Tails possibly- oh no. That must have been the real reason for the flowers! He was trying to distract my thoughts from the current situation! I tried to act casual when I answered Rouge. She didn't seem to notice, or if she did she didn't say anything.
I told her I was getting tired and she didn't need to stay overnight again. She quickly said goodbye and was out the door, leaving me to my thoughts. He must have gone to see Maria, knowing full well of the possible danger. That's why he healed me, in case things went wrong and why he gave me these daffodils. He wasn't thinking of me for any sentimental reasons, he wanted to distract me from what's really going on. I needed to get out of here. I quickly got out of the bed and snuck out the door. Then I raced through the halls and was out of the hospital in a flash. I had to get to the bottom of this, but where should I start? I made a stop at my place to think. It would only be a matter of time before anyone noticed I'm gone so I had to think fast.
As I paced I slowed to a stop when I noticed I still had the flowers in my hands, oh yeah. I should put these in some water. I took them to the kitchen and took out a tall glass. I didn't have any cases, so this would have to do.
I placed them on the counter and went back to pacing. If I could just-
"Faker, what are you doing." I froze, this isn't good, how did Shadow know I left?
"Hey Shad." I said as I turned around. He didn't look very happy. He had his arms crossed, giving me an all too familiar glare.
"Rouge said she went back to your room after she left and you weren't there." Shadow stated. Rouge must have forgotten something, ugh, why did I have to chose such an obvious spot to think?
Shadow started to step towards me, I cautiously backed away with each step, trying to think of an excuse.
"I was feeling just fine. And besides, those flowers you gave me needed water." That had to be lamest excuse I've ever come up with. I need up falling onto the couch after backing into it. I helped in surprise when I hit my head on the armrest. It didn't hurt too much but it did sting a little. Shadow stopped in front of me and just watched as I rubbed my head. Neither of us said anything, he looked tired just as I was about to say something there was a loud crash outside. Eggman! I was about to go investigate but Shadow stopped me.
"You need to stay out of sight, don't get in my way." He said before dashing, wait no! I'm supposed to keep him away from Eggman! I quickly followed him and tried to stay out of sight. Once I made it outside I noticed Shadow had confronted Egghead. This was exactly what I needed to prevent! I was about to spin dash Eggman but he left laughing, almost as soon as he came, he was gone again. Confused, I went to confront Shadow, he seemed shaken up. What happened here?
"Shadow?" I cautiously placed my hand on his shoulder, he looked up at me. He looked confused and angry.
"Go back inside, idiot." He said coldly as he backed away from me.
"But-"
"I said go inside!" He growled. He was distraught. I wasn't going anywhere until I got answers, he must have figured that out too because without warning he grabbed me and dragged me back inside. He threw me into the couch and pinned me down soon after. His face was so close I could almost feel his growl. I looked up at him alarmed, my heart rate picked up and it suddenly took effort just to breath steadily.
"I'm tired of how reckless you're being. Do you have any idea how much danger you're in right now? Stay out of sight next time!"
"What's even going on?" I started to struggle against his firm grip.
Just when I thought I was free, his grip tightened and my hands were pinned above my head in one of his hands while the other was over my mouth. His ears had perked up and he was looking around. I heard something too. I stopped struggling against him and just listened.
There was a strange vibration going through the air, it was faint but it still stood out enough to be noticed.
Shadow pulled me up against him and we found ourselves inside a cave in the middle of nowhere. What the? Shadow still held me close and this seemed to make me forget the argument we were just having a moment ago.
All too quickly, Shadow let go of me and he quickly scanned the area. I felt a little disappointed the contact ended but also confused as to what was even going on. There was too many things going on at once, I wasn't sure what to think or what to feel.
"Care to explain what's going on?" I asked hoping I'd get a straight answer this time.
"... Right now you need to focus on staying hidden. You're not safe." Shadow was vague as usual and it frustrated me to no end.
"That doesn't explain anything."
"Faker I don't have time for this-"
"Then just tell me whats going on?!" I snapped.
"I can't say anything right now. Not until I figure out how to fix this." Shadow growled.
More questions filled my head. Why cant he just tell me? Should I even trust him?
"Then let me help you-"
"No! I just told you you're in danger. You're the last person who should be involved!" He was getting just as frustrated as I was, but I stubbornly persisted.
"How am I supposed to hidden when I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be hiding from?" I wasn't sure why my words provoked him so much. Or what about them provoked such as odd reaction. But I just stood there stunned, what just happened?
I stiffened when he pulled me into his arms, he held me so tight and he just... Started to cry. I hesitantly put my arms around him as well and we just stood there for a moment. He didn't say anything to me and he tried to keep his sobs quiet but from how close we were, I could still hear them. What was going on?
He stopped and abruptly pushed me away before disappearing.
