Shadow POV

I looked over at Sonic, I was supposed to treat him as if he was an android so that no one else would catch on... But, I wasn't sure if I could go back to that with the knowledge that he really is Sonic.
Sonic noticed my stare it and grabbed my face, wearing a cheeky smile. He pulled my face up close as if he was going to kiss me but stopped just a few inches away.

"How's it feel to know you got into an android's pants?" Sonic teased. I pushed his face away utterly annoyed.

"Just when I thought you couldn't get anymore annoying." I narrowed my eyes at him as I watched him simply laughed it off.

I pulled my attention away from him and back to the ground below us. We were waiting for any kind of activity from the doctor. So far we had no luck, I wasn't surprised. This whole thing seemed pointless. I had mentioned before what the doctors plans were, but because of Sonic's death, no one would listen at the time. I looked over at Sonic, the day he had died must have been when Maria had died... I wasn't even there for that.  I had failed her twice! ... I shouldn't think of this now, of all the times. I can't afford to be distracted!

I thought about our current predicament instead. If Robotnik wasn't here, where would he be... The last time I saw him he was working on some odd device meant for Sonic... I doubt he'd still be at his desert base... But maybe... If he was making a devise for Sonic, it would only make sense for him to be something a bit more nearby to Sonic... Maybe disguising Sonic as an android is what is deterring our solution to be one step ahead.

"Shad?" Sonic's voice broke me from my thoughts, I looked over at him and instantly regretted giving him the time of day. He started rubbing his face in my chest fur. I sighed with annoyance.

"Sonic, this isn't focusing." I stated annoyed but didn't pull away from him. I suppose he was a bit needier than I anticipated.

"But I'm bored... Why don't we just call it a day and try again tomorrow?"

"It's only been 10 minutes." I rolled my eyes as I responded. "You can go keep busy somewhere else and I can stay to observe."

Sonic didn't seem to like that response and frowned. I went back to my thoughts until I felt Sonic start touching inappropriate places. I smacked his hand away and glared.

"Do you mind?" I glared and he just gave a smug smile and tried to act innocent. Chaos, he is getting on my nerves.

"It would pass the time." He said with a smirk.

"I'm leaving." I stated as I started to stand up, this immediately made him grab my hand and he promised to behave. I smiled inwardly with victory at his response before sitting back down next to him. "I will only stay if you behave." I lied, even if he went back to his antics, I dont think I'd actually leave. As annoying as he is, it's a little adorable, endearing even. Not that I would ever admit that out loud.

As more time past, even I grew bored with waiting. Sonic had already fallen asleep just waiting, I was close behind. I did what I could to stay awake but eventually, even I had grown bored enough to fall asleep.

My eyes shot open as I felt a sharp tug on my leg. I was about to attack but once I saw it was just Sonic I relaxed a bit. He stared blankly for a moment before he reverted back to his cheery self. I found this odd but I shrugged it off. He was a strange hedgehog.

"You fell asleep." He pouted, I sat up and stretched as I asked if he had seen anything. He simply shook his head.

"Perhaps we need a different vantage point then." I suggested. Sonic agreed and we began to look around.

Sonic stopped abruptly, causing me to walk into him. I thought he was goofing off again and got annoyed. I simply went around and continued walking.

There weren't any other doors or windows for that matter.

"There's no other way in..." I mused. I expected some sort of answer but when I got none I looked around only to see he wasn't there. Confused I looked around for him. I found him shaking where I had left him, he looked anxious and when he looked up at me with those scared eyes. I knew something was wrong.

"Sonic?"

"Shadow... I think I need to see Tails. There's.... I think... I need to get out of here..." Sonic said shakily. He tried to calm himself but it seemed in vain. I went to hold him but he simply stood there shivering. He felt cold, his body temperature had rapidly decreased I. The short time I left him.

Chaos Control.

We stood in front of the fox boy and that annoying red echidna. Before I could even say anything Tails reacted with haste, telling me to put Sonic on the table in his lab while pushing his way past Knuckles.

I did as I was instructed and he immediately began to check Sonic's vitals. They were all dangerously low. I didn't understand, how could this have happened? Tails frantically narrated what he needed to do but none of the words stuck with me. I simply helped when instructed as I watched Tails operate on Sonic. That's when I understood why Tails had insisted on call Sonic an android. It's not because of the lame excuse he told Sonic. He had many mechanical parts amongst his vital organs.

"Are you listening?!" Tails' shout brought me out of my thoughts. I gave him my attention but he had all too quickly lost his patience and told me to wait outside the room with Knuckles. I did as I was told and waited outside the room, the imagery still fresh in my mind... How...

"It's hard to look at. I used to help him but none of them are stable enough to function for long." Knuckles said solemnly. I looked up at him, he didn't make eye contact. Instead he was looking down at his feet as he had explained the gruesome details of Tails' obsession to revive Sonic.

" I don't know all the exact details behind how it works, but the machinery inside is supposed to force his body to function. Without all that fancy equipment, Sonic is brain dead." His words were heavy and I had trouble processing this new information... Sonic was... Dead? But he remembers so much, he's not some fake...

"Why are you telling me this?"

"I heard you and Sonic. I thought about telling you, but I figured it'd be easier to wait till you figured it out." Knuckles explained. I couldn't deny what he had heard and simply tried to ignore that fact all together. What should I do?

Knuckles left soon after, leaving with overwhelming thoughts. I sat down on the chair beside me and tried to rationalize all my thoughts.

If Sonic is gone... And he was Maria's incarnation... She's gone too. I... I abandoned them...

A/N:

Sorry I was late to updating, I recently started working with an exotic animal rescue. They reached out to me about my art and wanted to commission some designs so they could sell merchandise to make money for their rescue. So a lot of my time has been just doing sketches and stuff for them so they can pick what they like and what they want to use for their merch. Hopefully once I get a routine down, I'll be back to updating everyday again :D
