Sonic POV
I was actually surprised how easy it was to convince Shadow to stay. This would be a much easier way to keep an eye on him. Egghead definitely can't get to him if he's surrounded by friends! This weirdly worked out in our favor, maybe it was the fact that Shadow was a bit uneasy about this whole thing. Whatever it is I'm glad. He'll be safe with us.
"Is there a reason you've just been staring at me?" Shadow asked. I looked at him dumbfounded, I didn't realize I was staring at him, I had been too lost in thought. I gave him a sheepish smile and looked away awkwardly. "No reason." I felt my face warm with slight embarrassment. Smooth recovery Sonic. I watched Shadow from the corner of my eye, he quickly lost interest in the matter, I sighed inwardly with relief. Shadow wasn't as easy to anger as Knucklehead but he definitely got offended pretty easily. Best not to push my luck.
Soon we arrived at my house, I quickly got the extra blankets from my room and handed them to Shadow. He looked up at me with slight confusion.
"I don't have an extra bedroom, but you can crash on the couch!" I said cheerfully. I watched Shadow look at the blankets and couch before he quietly thanked me. He put down. The folded blankets neatly at the end of the couch, I left to the kitchen to see what I had to offer. There wasn't much. I skimmed through the cabinets and found I had, what does Shadow even like?
"Hey Shad, you hungry?" I asked. I did interrupt his morning with my obsessive knocking. He shrugged, "I guess I could eat." He came over to inspect the cabinets as well. I inwardly panicked as he searched through everything thoroughly. What if he doesn't like anything? Oh! We can go grab a burger. But wait! Tails said to keep him away from anywhere near that cafe! Come on Sonic, think!
I chewed nervously on the insides of my cheek as I tried to think of a way to grab a bite without tempting him to go to that cafe.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of something pouring into a bowl. I looked towards the sound and found Shadow making himself a bowl of cereal. He seemed content with this choice so I went on to make myself something, at least I was going to until there was a knock at the door. Quickly I went to see who it was.
"Hey buddy!" I said happily.
"Hey Sonic! I've got a ton of new info on the current situation. You just have to tell Shadow what I found." Tails said a matter-a-factly.
"Oh really? That's great! Although, I don't have to go tell Shadow because Shadow is already here." I said with a smirk. Tails came in with a doubtful look on his face but was surprised to see Shadow enjoying a bowl of cereal on the couch.
"Oh wow, he really is here." Tails blinked away the surprise and went to join him in the couch, leaving the middle seat open for me. I debated a moment with myself wondering if I should grab a bite before Tails started. Shadow finished his bowl and before he could get up I took the bowl from him and took it for him. I decided against eating, I could wait for now.
I sat between Shadow and Tails, my attention on Tails.
"So what was the new info?"
"Well, it's actually more of a hypothesis. I followed the cafe girl around town yesterday. She seems very forgetful. Towards the end of the day she made it back to Eggman's base where one of Eggman's bots lead her inside. I didn't follow them in but when the bot encountered her it seemed surprised that she even found her way back. I'm thinking this is just a prototype and Eggman's working on an upgrade." Tails seemed to have left out the parts where he actually had a conversation with her. Shadow seemed to pick up on that and turned his intense gaze to me.
"Faker mentioned she had... Memories, of sorts." Shadow wanted to know everything. Tails looked at me with a familiar subtle pique expression. I understood his frustration but how else was I supposed to convince Shadow to come here.
"Yeah, Sonic told me after he had tried to talk to her. It didn't really last long. Since we were supposed to be incognito." Tails gave me a stern look, more for spilling the beans than his brilliant save on my part. I rubbed the back of my neck and gave a sheepish smile in response.
"I was only trying to help..." Maybe I should let Tails handle the details next time.
Shadow seemed satisfied with the information he received. Im not all to sold on his expression though. He always looks so deep in thought, i wonder if he saw through everything and is doubting his trust in us. I really hope he's just letting think sink in and not doubting.
Tails got up and said he was gonna go see if there was any more he could do to assess the situation, leaving me with Shadow. Great, now to distract him... I don't have the slightest clue as to how I'm gonna pull that off. We could race but, there's a chance we could run into her. I'm not sure how well he'll handle that. The silence was becoming to suffocating, I got up and stretched my arms above my head before dropping them to my sides. Had Shadow just been eerily observing me this whole time? Well this is awkward, I wasn't sure if I should say something, and if I did, what could I say?
"Do you need anything?" I asked finally. He shifted his gaze directly to mine but didn't say anything at first. He just stared into my eyes like a hawk watching for an opportunity to strike. He wanted to play this game fine, I put my hands on my hips and waited, unconsciously tapping my foot as I waited. How long was he going to make me wait.
"Nothing I can think of." He turned his attention to the window, as if he was more fascinated in what was outside. I followed his gaze to the window and noticed some of the sunflowers swaying lightly in the crisp summer breeze. Amy had planted those outside when she found out those were my favorite. I never admitted it outloud to her, but I thought it was sort of sweet of her. I smiled softly as I watched them away, I wish I could tell her with her getting the wrong idea. She can be really annoying sometimes but overall, I really do value our friendship. I left to the kitchen and debated on what to eat. I really do need to get groceries, no wonder Shadow settled for cereal. I frowned at this thought, I guess I could go real quick but... What am I gonna do about Shadow? If I leave him here will he actually stay? But I can't take him with me either, he might get ideas and leave. Then again, couldn't he just chaos control out if here? I took in a deep breath at this realization. I really do need to keep a close eye on him. I peaked out of the kitchen to glance at Shadow to make sure he was still there. A really close eye.
I noticed Shadow bringing his hand to his face, I'm assuming to rub his eyes, since I couldn't see his face from here. He abruptly got up, I quickly hid behind the cabinets again as he made his way to the bathroom.
A green apple in my fruit bowl caught my sight. Right, food. I quickly snagged it, keeping him occupied without raising any suspicions is going to be hard.A/N: I'm a little bugged that I had to rewrite the second half of this chapter again because it had an issue updating the draft... Uuuggghhhh. You have no idea how irked I am from that. I guess I should write this on my notepad and just copy and paste the story from there next time. I probably won't learn from this tho. I'll probably use the app anyway and lose my work again and get pissed off again because I'm dumb. 😂😂😂 I'm trying to make the best of things. Anyway happy Easter!
