Sonic POV

It's been about a week of getting the cold shoulder from Shadow, but for some reason he kept coming back to visit. Tails didn't allow him to be alone with me, so when he was around, Tails or Knuckles was present. It was hard to talk to Knuckles, or anyone, when they would only refer to me as an android. So I stopped trying to talk to anyone. I had to focus on getting better so I can find my own answers.

"Jeez, your update made you really boring. You know that?" Knuckles complained. I looked at him a little annoyed but I just rolled my eyes and just waited for Tails to come back. Shadow was there too and would just sit there and observe. At first I thought maybe he had good intentions, but as the days went on, I grew suspicious that he was actually just trying to find a window to finish what he started.

"So is there a reason you're hanging around more often now? Last we heard you sided with Eggman." Knuckles asked Shadow. Curious I watched their exchange and said nothing.

"I thought we were past the accusations." Shadow replied annoyed.

"I still don't trust you." Knuckles glared at Shadow. I felt like I should say something or maybe do something to divert the conversation.

"No one asked you to." Shadow answered annoyed. Confused I decided to speak up.

"Is there something going on?" I asked Knuckles, confused as to what he was referring to.

"That's what I wanna know. It's not everyday you get someone from enemy lines back on our side." Knuckles said annoyed. Shadow didn't like his answer but said nothing. Enemy lines? So Shadow was teaming up with Eggman then. I guess that would make sense, since Maria would most likely be staying with family.

I guess he really did pick Maria... I looked away instantly annoyed at Shadow's presence but I didn't say a word. I still needed to find out why he was sticking around. Guilt maybe? Whatever it was, I needed to be careful. Knuckles had continued with his accusations towards Shadow nine of them made sense to me but when I noticed Shadow losing his patience I decided to interrupt.

"Alright Knucklehead, that's enough. I'm not exactly in the position to save you again." I said with a smirk. Knuckles scoffed.

"Don't pretend like your skill is anywhere near the real Sonic's." Knuckles said defensive. "I know Tails put a lot of work into you, but the truth is, you'll never be him." Knuckles solemn tone made me realize just how much of an impact me 'dying' did to him. I wasn't sure how to respond to that.

"... I guess..." I didn't want to argue, Knuckles wasn't someone you could rationalize with when he's emotional. Surprisingly, Shadow spoke up.

"Everyone misses him, there's no use taking your frustrations out on an android." Shadow didn't really sound too concerned but the fact that he tried meant a lot to me.

"Don't think I'm gonna get chummy. Everyone knows you didn't even stay the night that he died. You left him for dead." Knuckles countered. His words hurt. Shadow abandoned me? My ears folded down and I refused to make eye contact with either of them as they argued.

I was trying my best to make it back to the lab, so I could fix this but my body refused to listen. I heard Shadow's voice as he helped me to sit up. I realized, realistically, I would have to stabilize what little chaos energy I had left on my own. "Shadow... I'm not gonna make it..." I felt Shadow's grip tighten around me protectively.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He sounded so scared. Then I tried to explain what I needed to do when he asked what happened. I never wanted him to leave, I thought he would be back.

Later that night I just felt pain, I remember Tails, Knuckles, and Rouge were there, but Shadow wasn't there.

"He asked about you for hours, we didn't even know where you were!" Knuckles yelled. This was bringing too many unwanted memories.
