Shadow POV
My body felt heavy, my head was spinning with questions. How was I supposed to process these thoughts rationally. A knock was heard at my door, I wasn't in the mood for guests, I simply ignored it but the knocking persisted. I heard a muffled voice from the other side. I pulled one of my pillows over my head to better ignore the pest at my door. The knocking soon stopped and I was able to relax again. Or so I thought... The loud knocking and yelling began again, but with more vigor. What the hell do they want? Can't they take a hint! Muffling the noisy interruption didn't seem to work.
"Shadow, I know your in there! Open up!" They called as they continued to bang on the door. I begrudgingly left the bed, I stood in front of the door but I didn't open it. I simply unlocked it and went to sit down. Almost immediately the annoying blue hedgehog let himself inside.
"Wow, you look terrible." He stated. I sighed inwardly, How annoying. I turned my face away from him, looking towards the curtains that covered the window. I couldn't trust my voice right now.
"Shadow, everyone's been worried. Rouge says you haven't been answering her calls and everyone who's tried to check on you said you didn't answer the door." His tone was serious.
"I'm fine." My voice was raspy, I inwardly cursed at myself, my emotional turmoil must have been too obvious now. I heard footsteps coming closer and a warm body sit down next to me.
"Tails found something new on the.... Cafe situation. If you're interested in hearing it."
"Something... New?" I slowly turned to face him, his brows knitted together in worry when he saw my face more clearly. His hand came up hesitantly to touch my shoulder with his usual reassuring gestures, but a simple glare was enough to make him change his mind.
"I'm not really sure how to put this but... I think.. she might uhhm..." Sonic shifted uncomfortably as he trailed off. "This new... Android? Clone? Uh..." He trailed off, and shifted awkwardly as he continued with less confidence. "We think Eggman has been implementing fake memories... It might be to dangerous for you to be... directly involved." Sonic was inferring I stop any investigation on my side, but, I can't. Not after hearing this new information. I needed to know what these false memories could be... I wasn't sure if going in my vulnerable state would be the best of ideas. I still didn't know what this all meant.
"You're saying I cower away while you play hero." I said coldly.
"... Oh, no that's not what I-" Sonic sad attempt at comfort seemed more like an insult. I quickly cut him off with an aggressive tone. "I've heard enough. If that's all you can leave now."I left Sonic on the couch. I went to the kitchen and began making myself a cup of coffee. As I waited for the water to fill I noticed something a miss in the kitchen, or rather, something added that I know I did not have before.
I picked up the a small cerulean ribbon that had been crammed between the wall and one of the skillets I had hanging. I was confused as to how this had gotten here. I looked around a bit more for any evidence of how or who could have put it here but there was nothing else. I looked over the ribbon again. I let out a shakey breath as I realized the scent was... Hers... Whoever left this, was here, somehow, they had been in my house. This was why his door was unlocked upon his arrival.
The coffee maker started to beep indicating the coffee was ready. I could only stare for a moment as I tried to process this newfound information. How annoying, I may actually need Faker and his friends for this. My mind is too disorganized to distinguish any rational thought process... Like it or not, I had to swallow my pride on this one and actually reach out."Whatcha thinkin' about Shad?" Faker was still here? I looked up to see him waiting at the entrance to the kitchen. I rolled my eyes out of habit to respond to him. I suppose this is the part I tell him. I glanced his way once more before turning my attention to the coffee maker and began pouring myself a cup as I responded with a neutral tone. "You're still here." I stated, I offered him a cup of coffee, which he hastily declined before he spoke again.
"I was thinking... Maybe, it'd be a good idea if you had someone around to help you with... Not going crazy?" He said unsure. I stared at him confused. What was that supposed to mean? Before I could ask he continued. " I mean with Eggman's new scheme, maybe it'd be good if you weren't alone with your thoughts... It'd be a good way to keep your spirits up!" He said this with a sincerity I couldn't seem to ignore. It was sweet, but also vaguely annoying. Would I really want company?
"And that company would be?" I inquired.
"I dunno... Me, probably. Tails has been really busy trying to figure out Eggman's plans and Knucklehead isn't the best at having company. I guess there's Ame's-"
"So you're going to stay here?" I analysed his reaction carefully. He seemed to squirm a bit under the scrutiny but gave a sufficiently assertive answer. "Well I was thinking more of my place, but I can stay here too if that works more for you?"
I let his words set in a bit, weighing the pros and cons to this. I knew he was right about my emotional state with this whole situation. I looked back at the abandoned ribbon on the floor before deciding. With a phlegmatic tone I answered. "You live closer to the fox boy than I do. I think it would be beneficial to stay close to him. The more people working on foiling the doctor's plans the better."
Sonic answered with a smile, I inwardly winced at the idea of having to share space with this hedgehog, what was I getting myself into?
