I sat down in the chair, leaning my head to the side I wanted the tattoo, Shawn bringing up the tools to my neck.
'So whos the girl Akara, and why does she smell like you?'
'You want the long story or the short one?' I muttered, watching as he prepared the tools.
'I'm sure the story ain't that long.' he laughed out, cleaning the stamp. If I do give myself a tattoo, I don't think I need that, considering mine won't be enchanted.
'Well you're getting the short one anyway. She was a girl who lost her mom, Zero and I helped find her mom, turns out she's a level E and somehow the kid could track that, she gets attacked by another level E,' he dipped the stamp onto the inked paper, saying some words which made the metal glow red, sparking slightly.
'And I had to give her my blood, but she's a kid so she wouldn't survive, so I had to turn her.' he pressed it against my neck, making my teeth grit a little at the burning sensation.
'That the reason you and Zero are fighting?' he said as he wiped my neck, holding up a mirror for me to see the final outcome. The tattoo glowed bright red as it got itself acquainted with me, slowing fading back to black.
I nodded, shifting my head back up and stood up, going over to Miyu. 'Yeah, but I couldn't let her die,' I picked up her wrist, the one that I bit and pointed to. 'This is the one I bit.'
'Even if she became a vampire?' he brought over the gear, only having to put the metal on her wrist now that it was "heated up."
'Being a vampire is better than never getting to grow up. It's not like she has some monster as her master anyway, I'm sure Kaien can take care of her.' he pressed the thing to her wrist, her face twisting in her sleep as it seared into her skin.
'I'll take your word for it. You're both done. What do you wanna do now?'
'I'll just leave her here for the time being, it's safer for her. Besides I need to talk to the headma— kaien before I bring her back, see what he thinks.' Shawn nodded, packing up the gear. He assured me that he'll take over caring for Miyu while I'm gone, which definitely made me feel a bit more relieved.
I walked out the door, tanking him, to see Zero on the other side, leaning against the wall, waiting for me.
'You think you can protect that girl?' Zero said, his eyes looking up at mine.
'I doubt it, but i'll try my best.' I say truthfully, walking past him.
'Just don't let her grow up the way we did.' Zero said, walking behind me, coming up to my side. 'She's basically your kid now, you need to take care of her.'
'I know Zero. I know...' I muttered.
I looked out the window as we left the building, barely even realising that the sun had set, and that the light pouring into the room, which I swear was moments ago, was probably the last fleeting light of the day. The moon was finally out.
We walked for a while, out the building and out of town, back to school. That's when things started happening.
One after the other, we ran into more and more level E's.
'Zero, check your two o'clock!' I yelled out, incinerating a group of them, using my electricity to kill them, cursing myself for leaving my weapons at home.
Zero's gun went off three more times before it clicked, empty. 'Shit I dont have a reload!' Zero yelled out. I turned back to him, vaporising a vampire coming at him.
'Grab my hand, we don't have time, I need to get my weapons!' I reached my arm out, catching his hand as he jumped to me, teleporting away before another wave of level E's could trap us.
