He turned around and looked to spot the voice, making eye contact with me. 'Did you say my name?' he said, his eyes normal, compared to when I last spotted them.
'Yes! Holy shit it's actually you!' i exclaimed, Moka turning around to see what all the fuss was about when she recognised the man, obviously also having witnessed Niko's drunk antics.
'Akara it's the guy from that night!' Moka said, tugging on my sleeve.
'I know! What a bloody coincidence!' i say excitedly, looking down at her.
'Do I... know you two?' he responded tentatively. Oh shit, I forgot he has no idea who we are.
'Absolutely not, but you do know my best friend Niko!' I yelled out. Utas eyes widened, he rushed over and shushed us, suddenly pulling us into a back alley.
'Don't say her name so loud, you're going to get us all killed!' he whispered aggressively. It took me a second for my brain to function, finally clicking.
'Oh, my gods I'm an idiot.' I muttered.
'Yes, yes you are.' he replied. 'How do I know your actual friends of hers and not another one of those ghouls that are claiming to be?'
I stared down at Moka, who stared up at me, countless things coming to mind. 'Well for starters she's a minor who's already an alcoholic, that's where we recognised you from. Remember that day, she was trying to fight you out on the footpath, and then thought Ayato was cheating on her and then saying that he had to be cheating on her with a girl named Hinami?'
'Yeah and then you and she walked inside, where she was drinking from a bottle that smelt like blood, but you took it away from her?' Moka added.
'So you're from that school?' he asked. Kinda a dumb question but we both nodded.
'We came to get Ayato; she was anxious about him the other day when she saw him on tv with footage of anteiku.' Moka said, clearing up the story a bit.
He went silent for a little bit, pursing his lips in deep thought. 'I see. So she asked you to come to Tokyo?'
Moka and I glanced at each other, nervous laughter coming from both of us. 'Uh... no, not really. It was more act first, apologise later.' I explained, trying to make us not sound like we were trying to kidnap Ayato.
I could tell the thought crossed his mind. 'If you truly are her friends, what's something that only they would know?'
I looked at Moka again. Niko rarely ever talks about herself, and my memory is atrocious. those two things do not work together.
'Uh... gimme a second. Niko literally never talks about herself.' I rubbed my head, trying to remember something, anything about her. Thank god Uta is a patient man.
'Wait I remember!' I exclaimed, snapping my fingers together. 'She had an irrational fear of loud noises when she was younger, like really young, but she doesn't anymore.'
Uta sighed in relief, his shoulders relaxing. 'Thank god. It's been too long since I've been around people that are actually friends with her. Tell me everything and catch me up. First, let's get back to my shop.'
He walked out of the alley, the two of us following him along, shrugging, what's the worst that could happen, right?
We followed him down a twisting road, the town slowly getting more and more grotty until we reached a back alley. He unlocked the door and let us inside first, the inside dark, which my eyes were thankful for.
We walked down the stairs until we reached the landing, emerging into a room with a bunch of masks on different totems. Not creepy, at all.
'Welcome.' he said, his arms spread out, he flicked on the lights, which made me cover my eyes, giving them time to adjust.
