I had climbed outside of my balcony to the garden and waited for Adrian to come. He came and it was a pretty often occurrence for us. The day we did our first date, I would be like a friend to Adrian and help him choose a suitable wife, someone who has good intentions and is a kind person since I would generally know the selected better than Adrian.

"hey"

"hey"

"sorry about what Zoe said to you"

"oh, thanks"

"does it like not bother you"

"not much, why"

"I mean she called you an emotionless person who is ugly and a fucking cow"

"yea, I've gotten used to it"

"wait you mean you've been bullied"

"yea, when you're a six its pretty common, especially for loners like me who only have a few friends, and even my few friends, they aren't that close to me"

"do you make friends?"

"Nixie and Lauren are my friends and I care for them, I'm rooting for them, but no I don't tell them everything, I told them we went on a date, never told them we kissed"

"why don't you open up"

"cause the more people you let in, the more they can hurt you"

He sighed "you've been hurt by someone close to you"

"two times actually"

"two times?"

"yea, I had one friend back in Carolina named Michelle, she is well, she's really my only quote 'friend' even though I don't really have any"

"well you're friends with me"

"yea, but it's kind like a business deal"

"ouch, that hurt"

"sorry, it's just I don't open up to people like ever, I don't really tell anyone anything, my family know that, and its one of the traits that my parents hate the most"

"really?"

"yea, I bottle up my emotions, my thoughts, not a huge people person, I don't open up to people, what I'm thinking is what I'm thinking and I don't tell that to others, I used to be like my sister Bea, she is an open book, super happy and bubbly always seeing the bright side of things, and then I got hurt when I opened up to people so I stopped doing it, and became even more closed off when I got hurt again"

"wow, sorry, I'm like you I don't really open up to people either, really the only people I care about or are close to are my family, I've never been hurt before but I've always been closed off"

"well that's something we share"

"though really those comments don't bother you?"

"no, like I said, when you are a six, especially someone like me, you get picked on cause you're different, like I said, when I opened up to one person and told her about my dream to work hard enough to go into a different caste without marriage, she laughed at me and told everyone"

"that sucks, honestly I didn't choose this life for me, if I could I would want to be a normal person, all the politics and stuff, Derek is good at that, not me"

Then we heard a gunshot being fired. Me and Adrian had sprinted across and saw a guard dead, and people being infiltrating the palace. REBELS. We thought. I quickly grabbed the gun from the fallen guard and shot the rebel.
