Darryl POV
BRRR BRRR BRRR
I groaned and reached out blindly for the ringing device on my nightstand. I shut off the alarm and groggily sat up.
I rubbed my eyes and blinked the tiredness out of my eyes. I swung my feet to the floor and crossed the room to the closet. I grabbed my favorite hoodie and a pair of black skinny jeans and quickly changed.
I scanned my room for anything else I might need and silently thanked myself as I grabbed my phone off my nightstand.
I hurried down the stairs and snatched one of the muffins my mother had baked the previous night. I bit into it, savoring the sweet taste of my favorite pastry as I left my house and headed for the bus stop.
I ate half of it before deciding to save the rest for later in case I got hungry.
I arrived at the bus stop sooner than anticipated so I pulled out my phone and started to scroll through Twitter.
"Hey fucker what are you doing?" A rude chuckle forced me to look up.
My eyes landed on my enemy, Zak. "Language. I've told you that a thousand times. And what do you want."
"I want whatever you had for breakfast. So give me it." He held his hand out expectantly.
I rolled my eyes. "What if I ate it all. I'm not giving you my muffin. I'm saving it."
"I said give me it." He glared at me, attempting to intimate me with his stare. But it wasn't easy to be scared off by someone ridiculously shorter than you.
I glared back down at him. "No. It's mine."
A sharp pain blossomed in my gut and I stumbled back gripping my stomach. "Give it to me."
I glared at him and retrieved the muffin out of my backpack pocket and handed it to him.
He grinned in success and strutted away.
I sighed and sat down on the curb awaiting the bus.
As soon as the bus arrived I hopped on and took the first seat available. I leaned my head against the window and put my headphones in. I hit shuffle on my playlist and shut my eyes.
Instead of paying attention to the music my mind started to wander. My mind traced back to Zak. Even though I knew I should hate him, I couldn't seem to get over his cute little giggles, even if most of the time that I heard them they were malicious. And his beautiful mocha eyes that I would try to avoid for fear of getting lost in. It was just impossible for me to not fall for him. And I hated every minute of it.
The bus stopped in front of the large highschool and I got off and headed for my locker.
I grabbed my stuff from my locker and turned to leave, hoping to avoid another conflict with Zak. Thankfully, that's exactly what happened. I headed to my homeroom where the teacher announced that the school was hosting a masquerade ball this weekend and recommended that everyone attend.
I rolled my eyes. Who wanted to attend high school parties anyway. But I decided to go anyway. Who knows I might have fun.
Time skip to the night of the masquerade ball cuz I'm lazy
I checked myself in the mirror. I looked almost unrecognizable. I had a black suit with maroon highlights running down the sleeves and a small napkin tucked in the pocket. (Courtesy of my mom.) My mask was also black with red, white, and a couple light green gems. According to my mom the green in the gems brought out my eyes. I was even wearing contacts instead of my glasses in an attempt to look good.
