Not a chapter but you should read anyway

Hey sorry it's been a while! I've been busy and working on something for you guys! I've been working on a re write of an old Skephalo book of mine! It had a lot of plot holes and stuff so I decided just to re write it all together! So here's a snippet of the first chapter!

Sunlight streamed through my moth eaten curtains. I hiccuped and sat up in my bed. Shoot… It’s looting day.

I sighed and I hopped out of bed, putting on my shoes. I hated looting day because it was the most dangerous part of the week.

I lived in a small but reinforced home in the middle of a large city. I couldn’t remember what it was called but I knew I had lived here pre apocalypse.

I could barely remember anything before the apocalypse. Not because it had been a long time, but because on the day of the fall, I had been trying to escape the city and hit my head. I probably would have gotten killed if not for some kind stranger bringing me into a treehouse in the woods and leaving me with supplies.

I never saw their face but I knew that I owed them my life. I didn’t even know if they were still alive, or if they had turned, or if they were like me… Since then I had remembered some things but not a lot. Mostly big details like my name, age, family, address, phone number, and a few days prior to the apocalypse arriving.

I was one of very few people in the world who had become superhuman. I had learned from a TV broadcast 2 days prior to the apocalypse that according to their research sometime in the near future about 0.0005% of the population would become superhuman. Although they couldn’t seem to identify whether the rest of the population would stay the same or if something would happen to them.

I happened to be 1 of that 0.0005%. I wasn’t sure what my ‘superhuman ability’ was, but it had been 4 years since the fall and most people had turned by the time a year anniversary had come around.

So far I had kept track of 3 types of creatures that lived in the world now. Zombies, which were the most common. They were pale white with a slightly green tint. Every one of them had blood red eyes and sharp teeth. Generally they wore sunwashed torn versions of the clothes they had been wearing prior to turning.

The second I had observed was ghouls. I had found 2 types of ghouls. The normal ghouls, which were basically Zombies but faster and stronger, and what I called elemental ghouls. Which are basically humans with a power of the elements. However, they always seemed to be evil and out to kill.

I put my shoes on and grabbed my crossbow off my nightstand. I pulled my hood over my face and put a medical mask on. It was my best option to hide my identity just in case I was spotted.

I snuck out my back door, making sure to lock the door behind me, and hopped over my back fence. My house was about a 5 minute walk from the nearest walmart. But regardless of the short walk, it was still remarkably dangerous.

I kept my head down and walked slowly, as if I was just another Zombie wandering around town. The best way to survive was to keep your head low, not attract attention, and blend in. The best place to hide a penny is in a jar of pennies right?

I finally arrived at the walmart and squeezed myself through the half open mechanical doors.

The place was pitch black and I could hear turned shoppers, still wandering around the store and the squeaking of carts that they were pushing around. The eerie squeaking sent chills down my spine.

I was going to get in, and out, as quickly as possible.

I turned on a flashlight and slowly crept further into the store, freezing anytime anything near me moved.

I crept to the canned food aisle, scanning the labels for their expiration dates and shoving anything not yet expired into my backpack.

I picked up a can of corn off the shelf but the sound of footsteps startled me, causing me to drop the can. It clattered to the ground, creating a loud crash sound. I cringed and hurriedly zipped up my backpack, sprinting away from the scene. However, on both sides of the aisle were zombies rushing toward the sound. They were slow but were terrifying. And I couldn’t escape, which definitely didn’t help.

I froze. This was the end. There was nothing left for me. The zombies crept closer and speeding out of the crowd were 3 ghouls. I knew they were not much smarter than the zombies but they were fast. They could definitely outrun me if they wanted to.
