"Hey Simon, any life signs today?" The woman's voice was devoid of enthusiasm and hope. She had asked that question so many times now the answer had always been the same.

"No Miss Zora," The computer replied as the short woman stretched and threw of the duvet.
Zora sighed just as she always did.

"Anything interesting anywhere near us at all?" She huffed blowing a tossle of light brown hair out of her pale face.

"No miss Zora."

"How long until the auxiliary power kicks it?" The light brown haired woman questioned jumping on of her top bunk.

"About 24hrs, Miss Zora," The computer replied.

She threw a bottle of shampoo across the room it skidded off into the table.
"Great and from there I've got barely any time left."

The woman sighed heavily once more.
She was once the captain of this ship how she had found herself in that position she still wasn't sure. Zora was strict and well versed in the codes of the ship and how to run a ship given her father's long carrier as the head of the Nova 4 but she was also impulsive and slightly crazy. As was her best friend and former chief engineer Sara but she was no longer here nor was the rest of the crew. Not after the simulant attack. Zora found it best not the think about that day to much I wouldn't help her survive and for the most part the memories we a blurry haze other only came back her a nightmares when she allowed herself to sleep in between her repairing of her ship to buy her more time to figure someway off this ship.

When she woke the next time she asked the same.questions but the last words of the computer were slurred as the computer died out. Zora was close to tears as the screen went blank.

"Simon?"

She hit the screen and flicked switches but when a voice said
"Back up power engaged."

She realised that it was one of the protocols for preservation of power. Soon enough even the reserve power will run out and then that's it for her. Or maybe not.

Zora jumped up and down for joy at her idea. She went racing around the baren ship linked with debris and wires and tools she hadn't been bothered to put back. She diverted power to only the most essential things. A stasis pod and the emergency beacon. Once the emergency distress call was being sent out on a constant loop. Zora grabbed a few possessions and headed for the stasis pod. She didn't know how far from earth she was nor how long she would remain asleep waiting to be rescued.
