Yesterday had been a good day, well as good a day could be as servant to the royal dollophead himself. King Arthur of Camelot, the finest ruler in all the lands, adored by his people, admired by his friends and insulted by Merlin.
It was nothing out of the ordinary, well actually maybe it was out of the ordinary as nothing had gone wrong. Camelot, for once, was seemingly peaceful. Morgana still lay a threat but she hadn't been heard from in months. There were no reports of her men nor of any cruel acts by her hand.
Of course one would be truly oblivious to the actuality of ruling a kingdom if he or she was to say there were no problems within Camelot. It's true there was problems but these were ones that could be solved by the great King and Queen who ruled with kindness in their hearts and compassion in their judgment. Problems such as these included tax prices, issuing relief to a few outlying villages who had suffered a harsh winter, trade and relations with other kingdoms. Nothing some court counsel discussions and secretive advisement from a manservant couldn't fix.
Camelot flourished, people were happy, one could say they were in a golden age of true prosperity. But like all things, nothing can stay truly good forever....
"Regression to the mean" The old physician said sombrely to his young ward. "It's the idea that no matter how bad things get, or how good, the world will even out and find a balance." Gaius was sat down at his dining table opposite Merlin, they were both eating breakfast, which smelled delicious. There was a book placed out in front of the pair as they read the philosophical words the Warlock had come across whilst helping the Physician tidy his mouldy bookshelves.
"Things are pretty good now Gaius." Merlin said warely.
"Indeed."
"I'm not sure I want things to change, well I would like Arthur to truly know who I am and accept my magic, but apart from that I'm not sure if could take anymore change. Things are finally becoming okay again, Arthur is happy, truly happy and I'll be damned if something ruins that. I'm not sure I can put up with another one of his mood swings." The boy chuckled.
"It is only superstition." Gaius countered.
"Superstition can be truthful"
"This is true, but right now I think you should be less worried about philosophical nonsense and more worried about getting to work, you're late."
Merlin groaned, rolling his eyes, taking a few more rushed bites out of his food and gulping down some water before taking his leave and shouting a Thank you behind him. Leaving a smiling man staring at his son as he ran out the door.

"Rise and shine!"
Merlin was greeted with a disgruntled groan, and decided that today he would spice up his methods of getting his royal pratness out of bed. The Raven left the bedroom and headed over to Sir Gwaine's chambers where he knew help could be found.
Meanwhile, Arthur had drifted back into his slumber, pleased at the thought that Merlin has left him to sleep for a bit longer.
Enlisting the help of Percival, Elyan and even Leon, the group of brothers smiled mischievously as they readied themselves for the chaos they were about to incite.
Lined outside the King's chambers, Percival and Gwaine couldn't help but be giddy. Merlin started walking up and down the hallway as if he was in charge of the Knights.
"You all know what to do?"
"Yes Sire!" The four knights whisper shouted as they straightened themselves up as if taking orders from their commander. It was all done in a joking matter of course, Merlin was still a clumsy fool but he was their friend.
