Ten days earlier...
It had been a day since Caden had left with the Camelot knights. Isobel was heartbroken, the man she loved had been taken from her, but worst of all, she didn't know why.
Isobel sat in her chambers unknowing what to do with her self, the events of yesterday playing over in her head, what if that truly was the last time Caden would hold her? The last time they had said I love you. She couldn't bare the thought of never seeing him again. But whats more, she could never do the one thing he has asked of her, she couldn't move on, she couldn't just forget about the person she cared for more than anyone, love doesn't work that way.
The Princess had never felt at home in this kingdom, there was a reason she had left Malkos, a reason she stayed away. It didn't matter how much she loved her family she could never justify the risk she would take by staying in Malkos, that was until Caden. The connection she had felt with him was different than anything she had ever felt before, it was like he soothed the power inside of her, let her be herself without fear. With him, she was in control.
He didn't even know the power he had over her, how he made her feel, she didn't understand it herself, how could someone with no magic have such an effect on her? Caden didn't have active magic, of that she was sure.
When a person has magic there is an aura encompassing their body almost as if the world is vibrating around them. It's not visible to the naked eye but to those who possess magic it fills their other senses: hearing, smell, touch and even taste.
Hearing: a quiet buzzing or humming, the louder it is, the more powerful the magic.
Touch: small pulses of vibrations when magic users come into contact.
Taste and Smell are both indescribable, neither good nor bad, just prominent. With Caden the feeling was almost non existent, Isobel couldn't sense any aura through taste, smell or hearing. Although, oddly drawn to the boy, it was only when their hands met that the princess felt something unexpected. It was brief, but it was powerful, it was as if a jolt of energy flew between them. Isobel knew Caden felt it too as they both looked to each other in surprise at the time.
Isobel was curious about Caden, was that magic she felt? or was it something different? Over the weeks that followed Isobel observed the knight curiously, but came to the underwhelming conclusion that he was in fact without magic. She couldn't explain their first meeting, nor could she explain the way that whenever Caden was near, it calmed her, she would never loose control around him, he was like a shield protecting both her and the outside world. But with Caden gone, she knew she couldn't stay in Malkos for long, it was only a matter of time before her past caught up with her.
Isobel had never been a calm-tempered person, in that way she was very similar to James. It is also the reason why Cedric had been so important in both the King and Princess' lives, he was calm and collected, he would reason with them and would not be afraid to put them in their places. Cedric was the only one who knew of Isobel's abilities, he was the only one she trusted, when he died the princess had never felt so alone and hopeless, she hid herself away from everyone, only to return to Malkos after years of James pestering her with letters.
As the hours ticked on by, the princess had had just about enough of being the clueless one and so abruptly stood from her dressing table and stormed out of her chambers heading to the one person she knew would have answers: her cousin, James.
Isobel stormed into the King's chambers without so much as a knock, but he was not alone, Alec was also present. The duo quickly straightened up in their stances. Isobel could tell by the looks of anger they were quickly trying to hide that they had been arguing with one another.
