"Do you time your calls?" I ask Harry who had called me once again, this time during a car chase, so that's exciting. I'm swinging as fast I can to catch up to the car while simultaneously trying to dodge bullets and round corners. I huffed-
"Peetterr!!!! Hey man, ready for tonight's party, New Year's, huh?"
"Yeah, super ready." I say, landing on top of the car and flipping to the passenger side as the criminal in that seat tried to shoot me with his gun out the window. I shot a web and threw him out of the car before attaching up to a building the car passed by. "See you took up my invitation idea." I say, as he didn't wait the day of to tell everyone. I fillip back to the top of the car and wait for the driver to stick out of his window.
"Hey, also, I gave MJ a suit I got for you and some money for MJ to buy her dress. Think of it as my Christmas present for you both."
The driver sticks his gun out the window and I flip to the side to dodge his bullets before webbing him out of the car and to the building beside us. "That's very nice of you Harry—I have to go uh-see you tonight!" I hang up and quickly flip in front of the car and shoot to the buildings behind and stick my feet to the front of the car and pull to bring it to a stop. I pull and pull until the can finally comes to a stop and I can flip back onto my feet. I let out a sigh of relief, not realizing I had held my breath. "Last car chase of the year, huh." I say, having created a bit of an audience around me. I overhear a few bystanders:
"Is that really Spider-Man??"
"No way—"
"I thought he'd be taller."
Welp. Me too.
I start walking away from the car when I see Olivia and Dani—wonder what they were doing. They were stopped with the crowd and looking at me while Olivia brought out her phone to record. I gave her a wave as I shot a web to a building and swung away. This year was finally coming to an end... Snow was falling gently from the sky, I wondered if it would stop later tonight, though the weather has been going in and out.
I land on the fire escape and climb into my room, taking off my mask.
"Harry's been awfully generous, huh?" MJ asks from my bed, wearing a T-Shirt of mine. She had her laptop in her lap and seemed to have not moved much since I last saw her. Her hair was up in a bun and the Spider-Man squish mallow sat on my nightstand.
"Yeah... He has." I say, going to my closet and changing out of my suit. "Need me to get you something?"
"What would I need?"
"Tea."
"Yes please."
I smile and put on a shirt and just keep my boxers on, I head out to the kitchen and start boiling the water. I go on my phone and look over MJ's blog, she had a post that told every detail of the Black Dahlia case. I smiled lightly, I don't believe she had taken it off since that night. I then check the news--Hammerhead's gang still at large. I really needed to take down his bases but Yuri hasn't targeted every location yet. I'm sure we'll get him next year... Hopefully. I pour MJ's tea and put some honey in it before coming back to my room and carefully handing it to her.
"Are you done for the day?" She asks, looking up at me.
"Believe so... Unless something goes wrong."
"Something always goes wrong."
I shrug and walk to the otherside of the bed, laying down beside her. I spend the rest of the day with her, leaving the police to the small crimes in the city--though I don't trust that too much... MJ left about an hour and a half until the party to get ready. That's when I looked at the garment bag that was set in the middle of my closet. I take a breath in, worried it would be too flashy for me. Harry has always been one for style, even as a football player... I wonder if he's still with Gwen... She wasn't at dinner so it was unlikely... I walk over to my closet and unzip the bag, revealing a deep red satin suit... "Holy shit..." I look at the fabric and run a hand down the sleeve, "how much was this???" I took the suit out completely and it was not just the jacket and pants but the button up and tie matched the color seamlessly. It feels like a crime if I were to wear this... Then again I'd stick out with my cheap suit. I sigh and hang the suit back up, leaving my room and going to MJ's and I's shared bathroom just to the left of the couch in the living area. The door was closed, just as I was about to knock, MJ came out with a towel wrapped around her body and hair. Her shoulders shining with the water that remained on her. I was about to say something when she put a finger up to stop me, "Words when I'm done." she says as she then walks past me and into her room, closing the door behind her. I smile before entering the bathroom myself and taking a shower.
I wrap a towel around my waist and go to my room, fixing my hair to how it usually is, it having more of a curl than usual until I brush it back. I put the suit on and look into the mirror, not recognizing myself. "Always knew red was my color." I said jokingly to myself--then I realized I just said that to myself. "Why wou-no no just don't." I say to the mirror and exit my room. It was dark now and I had to turn on the small light in the kitchen. Not too long until MJ came out, my mouth dropped at the sight of her. She wore a sequined long deep red dress that hugged tight to her body. It sat off her shoulders and had a cut between her breasts, showing off her necklace. The dress made a subtle design with the sequence down her body and had a slit that revealed her black tights. Her hair was straightened and slicked back to show off her golden hooped earrings. MJ gives me a cheeky smile and a laugh escapes my lips.
"Wow."
"Wow." She says back, coming over to me and touching my tie, "Looks like we match."
I put on a large black jacket that went down to just below my knees and MJ put on her puffer jacket that was the same length as mine.
I open the door for her and she walks through... I don't deserve her.
I close the door behind me.
