That's Just The Way The World Works

Harsh Waves

I'm swinging towards the smoke and as I get closer the sirens and gunshots get louder, the adrenaline starts picking up and I'm starting to feel the fear in the air. Soon enough the city's emergency sirens start blaring, I swing by a TV shop that showed a breaking News coverage telling New York city's citizens to stay inside. Shit... What was happening. The wind pounded on my back, causing me to swing even faster. I'm propelled into the air, higher to get a view and that's when I see it: smoke, fire, police, and cars turned over at the supermax prison... Oh God... Who broke these guys out? How was this even possible?? I guess it's not super crazy--I did a test run for their security and didn't have too much trouble getting out but they didn't give me anything to suppress my power. I landed on a tall lamppost and looked at the scene before me, the officers were shooting recklessly at the prisoners who were hijacking the cop cars and trying to escape into the streets. I'm about to jump down and help when an officer calls to me:

"Spider-Man! Thank God you're here--Get inside the prison, we can handle these guys--you need to get them!"

I cock an eyebrow before looking at the blown entrance of the prison and shoot a web and zipping straight there, perching on the broken concrete, soft rain started to fall on the scene and this prison was practically in shambles. I see a few prisoners notice me and revenge shines in their eyes--I was the reason they were here so it was understandable. But these guys weren't trouble, I fought the group with ease and a few quips-- hoping to diffuse this situation as quickly as possible. I finish the last guy and look up at another opening in the walls, shooting two webs beside the opening and zipping myself through, landing on the railing and scoping the area, "Who wants another try to take me down?" I call to the destroyed cell room with lights sparking every so often. "Anyone?" I call again, searching for prisoners when my spidey sense warns to something behind me but I'm too slow as I'm gripped by the neck by something hard, I look up and see scorpion who laughs, "I'll take you Spidey-" He grins, his green helmet unfamiliar to me... In fact his entire suit was, his scorpion tail was a bright green with some yellow spots but I can't observe further as my vision starts to blur, "On second thought--maybe another time-" I say, attaching a web to his tail and electrifying it, causing him to let go of me but also get shocked in the process. I fall to the ground but flip back onto my feet, turning behind and ready to fight. Scorpion starts squirting poison at me out of his tail, I'm forced to play defense. I huff and shoot a web to cover his tail but it melts quickly, I pout, "Not fair."

We go back and forth for a while before the glass of the remaining light shatters. I cover my head when I feel the static behind me. I look behind and hear the laugh of none other than electro. "You gotta be kidding me, you're here too???"

"Surprised?!"

"No, just annoyed."

His face turns to irritation, "You insect."

I place a hand on my heart, "You wound me Max~"

Electro growls and throws his hands up, electricity quickly transferring from both, "DO NOT CALL ME THAT!"

His spark is sent straight towards me but I dodge him doing what I wanted him to-- I'm attached to the wall when I jump, breaking the wall behind me and giving electro a kick where his suit was. He flies back but Scorpion comes behind me almost striking me with his tail. I dodge left and right but being caught off guard by a swing of his tail hitting my stomach hard--I felt the urge to vomit but I'm electrocuted without a second to get my bearings. I quickly jumped up and looked behind me: seeing electro had made a hole through the ceiling and was laughing maniacally.

"Not so smart now, huh?"

"You won't get another chance." I say, launching up towards him but he practically teleports away with his speed being like lightning. I quickly shot a web to grab onto something and chase after him, we were over the ocean so the ground wasn't an option. The waves were rough and I felt the light rain fall on my face, being the only gentle feeling in the situation. My eyes dart to where Electro was and I start swinging after him, I gain some momentum before using a pole sticking out of the building as final leverage--I come fast at electro and kick him in the stomach, my foot sticking as I try to push him towards the ground. I'm successful as I get up on a broken pillar, I hold electro by the suit and hold my fist up to punch but his face is not fearful, I hesitate at my confusion when I'm hit from behind and am grabbed tightly by claws. All I see is the ocean below and my blood dripping from my stomach where claws had just pierced me. I strain my head upward to see the Vulture, "Vultchy, long time no see!"

"Shut up." He growls, throwing me onto concrete. My head bangs against the wet concrete and my vision blurs. I struggle to stand up as my head spins but when I collect myself I see that I'm on a helicopter landing... I look up and electro lands in front of me, followed by scorpion to my other side and vulture to the opposite. Just when I thought that was all, Sandman and Rhino climbed up behind me. "Hey guys-" I put my hands out to hold back any swings, "maybe we can just talk this out."

"Alright, let's talk." Sandman says before giving me a punch to the stomach, pushing me back into vulture who tried to cut my back but I jump up-

"Oh no you dont-" electro says, sending electricity up, hitting me. I'm paralyzed as I start falling back towards the ground, rhino catching me with his horn, it scratching my right side--tearing my suit.

"What? No clever remarks?" Vulture asks.

I pull myself to slide off of Rhino's horn, landing on my feet but it seems pointless as my spidey sense couldn't focus. It was buzzin all over the place as Scorpion reels his tail back and swings at my back, poison entering my system. I'm pulled to the ground and given a punch to the face, hitting the ground once more. I couldn't even see who landed the punch but I started grasping for anything, reaching for the ground ahead me as I tried to drag myself out. I get to the edge of the building when a mechanical claw grips right beside my hand. I look up as more claws and long tentacles reveal themselves, slowly pulling up a man who was attached to them, his smile crooked as he looked down at me...

"Ah, Spider-Man. What do you think of the advancements I've made?"

He made the suits for them?

"Don't worry, we won't kill you. I specifically told them not to. This is only a warning."

He moves behind me, the tentacles moving him, his feet not needing to touch the ground... I knew this guy... I knew what he was wearing--it's the machine Otto and I made--wait, how'd he--

Otto?

One of the claws of the arms grabs my right foot, clenching down and piercing my skin, I felt the warmth of my blood run. I'm pulled up off the ground and upside down in the air. In front of me was him... I'm face to face with the partner I proudly worked with... I helped him because I believed in his cause... Now we're here... How are we here? He moves me to hanging over the ocean, the rain still gentle but the waves fierce.

"We are the sinister six and no one, not the police, not iron man, and certainly not you will be able to stop us. So just make this easier on yourself, Spider-Man. If you don't heed my warning, you will die. Trust me... You've met your match."

He pauses and I feel a sting of betrayal... I never thought such a man could end up like this. I feel my head get light as I'm then dropped into the ocean below. When I hit the water, I was warm for only a moment. Then I felt nothing but cold.

I think I'm dreaming of nothing again.
