"Sometimes the most dangerous lies are the ones written in someone else's words."

Fred was sitting on the edge of his bed, looking completely bewildered.
He had clearly been expecting George to come in alone.
His expression changed the moment he saw Katherine standing behind him.
"Katherine?"
George didn't give him time to say anything else.
He strode across the room and slammed the folded letter down onto the bed between them.
Katherine stopped a few steps behind him.
Her heart was beating so hard that she could feel it in her throat.
She squeezed her eyes shut.
For one brief second, she considered turning around.
Maybe she could leave.
Maybe she could pretend the letter didn't exist.
Maybe she could continue living in that strange, fragile state where she and Fred were technically reconciled, even though she didn't trust him anymore.
But she knew she couldn't.
She needed answers.
Katherine slowly opened her eyes.
He looked completely relaxed.
The smile disappeared almost immediately.
"What the hell?"
"Read it."
George's voice was frighteningly calm.
Fred stared at the folded piece of parchment.
"What is this?"
"Read it."
"George—"
"Just read it."
Fred picked it up.
Katherine watched his fingers unfold the paper.
She couldn't look at him.
She couldn't bear to see his reaction.
Instead, she stared at the floor.
She listened.
The room remained completely silent.
Then Fred inhaled sharply.
Katherine's stomach twisted.
"What..."
His voice was barely audible.
George folded his arms.
"Go on."
Fred read the letter again.
His eyebrows drew together.
His eyes moved towards the bottom.
Then back to the beginning.
He looked genuinely confused.
"This isn't mine."
George's laugh was humourless.
"Oh, brilliant."
Fred looked up.
"I've never seen this before."
"You expect me to believe that?"
