"Every time the spell hit her, it felt like her mind was being torn open against her will — memories dragged violently to the surface, fear clawing through her chest, helplessness settling deep in her bones. There was nowhere to hide, nowhere to protect the parts of herself she never wanted anyone else to see."

The walk to the dungeons felt endless.

The castle remained wrapped in darkness around them, torches flickering weakly against stone walls while their footsteps echoed through the corridors. Harry walked slightly ahead, silent and rigid, while Katherine stayed close beside Fred.

She could still feel the aftershocks of the vision clawing through her chest.

Arthur screaming.

Blood across stone floors.

And now this.

Nobody spoke during the walk except Dumbledore occasionally murmuring instructions to Snape too quietly for the others to hear.

The deeper underground they travelled, the colder the castle became.

By the time they reached Snape's classroom, Katherine's hands had gone numb.

The familiar Potions room looked far more sinister at night.

Moonlight filtered faintly through the underwater windows, casting eerie green shadows across shelves lined with glass jars full of preserved creatures floating silently in murky liquid. The room smelled strongly of herbs, smoke, and something metallic underneath it all.

Snape moved towards his desk smoothly.

"It appears," he began coldly while unrolling a small leather case filled with strange silver instruments, "that you both possess a connection to the Dark Lord's mind."

Katherine's stomach dropped.

Beside her, Harry looked equally unsettled.

"Whether he is aware of this connection," Snape continued, "remains unclear for the moment."

The silver tools glinted beneath the candlelight as he arranged them carefully across the desk.

Katherine's eyes widened slightly.

The instruments looked sharp.

Ancient.

Dangerous.

"Is he gonna use those on us?" she whispered quietly to Harry.

Harry barely reacted.

He looked completely trapped inside his own thoughts now, green eyes distant and exhausted.

"If he knows about this connection," Harry asked suddenly, voice rough from strain, "will he be able to read our minds?"

Snape finally looked directly at him.

"Read them," he said softly. "Control them. Unhinge them."

The words settled heavily into the room.

"It has been used before by the Dark Lord to invade the minds of his victims," Snape continued, his voice smooth and dangerously calm. "Creating visions designed to torture them. Manipulate them. Drive them towards madness."

Katherine swallowed hard.

Every instinct inside her screamed to leave.

"To defend yourselves," Snape said, "you must learn Occlumency. The magical defence of the mind."
