Camryn woke up to a beige ceiling and a bright light. She felt warm and tired. The last thing she remembered was being held in Peter's arms. Then the memory suddenly hit her. She was shot. And she passed out. And now she was in the hospital.

She tried to sit up but felt a piercing pain in her left shoulder. She looked down and saw that her shoulder had been bandaged up. She also had an IV in her arm and an oxygen tank hooked to her nose. She sat up gently and looked around the room. No one was around but she could see nurses and doctors walking around the Intensive Care Unit through the window of her room. Camryn looked to the night stand beside her and saw a bouquet of sunflowers.

Camryn jumped when she heard someone enter the room. A nurse. She was a tall and thin woman with kind eyes and dark skin. Her hair was done in box braids that were pulled into a low bun. She smiled at Camryn.

"Hello, sleepy head," she greeted, "how are you feeling?"

Camryn's throat felt so dry that she couldn't even speak. The nurse went to get her some water from the sink. Camryn accepted the water and drank it in one sitting. She cleared her throat. "I'm sore."

"Well the anesthesia wore off but we can give you some morphine for the pain," the nurse said, checking her IV bag. She looked at the teen, "your parents are here. Do you want me to go get them?"

Camryn's eyes widened, "yes please."

The nurse nodded and left the room, closing the door behind her. Camryn sat alone in the room for several minutes before the door opened again. Her mother came rushing in, holding her arms out. Her father thanked the nurse and followed his wife. Diana hugged Camryn so tight that she felt the sharp pain in her shoulder. But she missed her parents so much that she didn't care. Lance held his daughter's hand.

"We were so worried about you!" Diana exclaimed.

"A woman named May called us and told us that you were shot during a mugging," Lance told his daughter.

"Oh my god, how long have I been out?" Camryn asked.

"Twelve hours," Diana said, "you were brought in for emergency surgery to extract the bullet and stop the bleeding."

"Your friend was here all night, just left a few hours ago," her father said, referring to Peter.

Camryn felt a small blush creep on her face when she thought about Peter. She looked through the window and her eyes widened when she saw Peter and Ned standing outside. He must have come back with Ned.

"What happened Camryn?" Lance asked.

Camryn took a deep breath, "after I left Peter's apartment, I was walking down the street to the nearest subway station." Camryn didn't want to tell her parents about the situation leading up to her leaving the apartment, so she lied. "Peter was walking me there. But suddenly a man came running at me and tried to steal my backpack. I tried to hold onto it but the next thing I knew I was shot in the shoulder and Peter was tackling the mugger."

She looked at her father, "he saved my life, dad. I know I was still shot but if he hadn't tackled him, I would've been killed. The mugger was gonna shoot me in the head."

Lance leaned in and kissed his daughter on the forehead, whispering to her, "I'm grateful that he did."

Ned looked through the window and saw that Camryn was awake. The nurse opened the door for them and they came walking in. Lance stopped Peter, however.

"I want to talk to you," he said, gesturing outside. Peter looked at Camryn and then her father, "y-yes sir."

Her mother, father and Peter left the room and closed the door behind them. Ned stayed with Camryn. He walked over to her bed and gave her a card. Camryn opened the card and saw that it was a "Get Well Soon" message and a bunch of signatures from other students. Even Flash had signed it.
