Peter was walking through the halls of the new Avengers Headquarters in upstate New York. Happy had picked him up from school and told him that Tony Stark wanted to speak with him. Peter was excited but also a little nervous. Their last conversation did not go well, and resulted in his suit being confiscated.
Tony Stark met up with Happy and Peter, who were looking out the window to see a jet take off. "Oh, there they are! How was the ride up?"
Peter smiled, "great, Mr. Stark."
Tony turned to Happy, "give me a minute with the kid?"
Happy gave Tony a look of disbelief, "seriously?"
"Yeah," Tony deadpanned, "I have to talk to the kid."
"I'll be closer behind," Happy told them.
Tony turned to Peter and started walking while patting his back, "sorry I took your suit."
Peter gave him a confused look. Tony Stark was apologizing?
"I mean, you had it coming."
Nevermind.
Tony took a deep breath, "actually, it ended up working out for you because you realized that you didn't need your suit to be Spiderman. A tough-love moment, don't you think?"
"I guess..." Peter shrugged.
"Let's just say it was," Tony exclaimed, "you screwed the pooch hard, big time. But then you did the right thing. Took the puppies to the free clinic, raised the hybrid puppies... actually that doesn't make any sense."
Peter gave him a weird look, not understanding where he was going with his point.
"What I'm trying to say is," Tony reiterated, "I was wrong about you. With a little more mentoring, you could be a real asset to the team."
"To the- to the team?" Peter asked, trying to make sure he wasn't misunderstanding him.
"Yeah, there's about fifty reporters behind that door when you're ready," Tony told him. A door opened to reveal a metal Spider-Man suit. Peter's eyes widened when he saw it. It was a beautiful dark red with a dark blue spider emblem and strips down the side. It looked a lot like his old suit just more, technologically advanced.
"You can try on that suit, and we can introduce you as the newest Avenger."
Peter looked at the suit and really thought about Tony's offer. It was awfully tempting to just leave high school and be Spiderman full-time. But then he thought about his aunt, and Ned, and then Camryn. He didn't know if his aunt was ready for him to leave and he wasn't sure if he was ready to leave his friends behind. He was only fifteen, he had the rest of his life to be Spiderman.
"So after the conference, Happy will show you to your room, your new quarters. You'll be next to Vision," Tony explained but Happy interjected, "Vision's not big on doors. Or walls." Tony shrugged as he looked back at Happy and then Peter, "oh, well... you'll fit right in."
Peter shook his head as he turned towards Tony, "Mr. Stark, I can't accept this. I-I mean, thank you but.. I'm good."
Tony raised his brows, "you're good? You're good? What does that mean?"
Peter grinned, "I still want to be the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I want to be with my aunt and my friends."
Tony looked at Happy and then Peter and shrugged, "alright."
Pepper Potts came from the conference room, "Tony, I have fifty reporters waiting, what's the hold up?"
Tony gestured to Peter, "he didn't accept. He turned down my offer."
