After she takes the rest of the sandwich for us to talk more about school and life, anything we can find to discuss, we discuss. "Did you like the sandwich?" I ask. "Yes, it was yummy, at least the rest of it." She says rolling her eyes. "I...er...we could make a new one." I stumble. "Oh, yeah?" She says getting up and heading out. I get up and follow her. She freezes, her smile is gone. She mumbled something, I made it out, she said 'Mama'.
She's falling and falling fast. I rush over to her. I look up tears in my eyes. I see what happened, Raymond. He brought her Mom back. She bruises, she has a black eye, bruises up and down her arms and legs. Her lips are swollen, and her ribs are broken most likely. He looks at me. I have tears down my cheek. What did you do? Why did you do that? Do you have no boundaries? I think.
I scoop her up and take her to my room. "I'm sorry, Carre. I'm sorry." I whisper when I put her down. Please don't sleep right now. I need to know you're okay. Wake up, Carre. I think, shaking her. "Carre wake up. Please wake up." I shook her and started to cry. Nothing is happening. I slowly give up on the shaking. I lean my head on the bed by her stomach and start to quietly sob. Raymond gives me my space, during the day unless he needs something. I think he'll leave me alone. I continue to cry, I cry for eternity.
A few hours later, I feel a hand gently running through my hair. My sobbing subsided a few minutes ago. "Why all the crying, baby?" Carre asked. "Carre!" I exclaimed. I gave her a hug. I buried my nose in her neck. "Carre. Carre. I thought...I...lost you." I whisper happy tears stroll down my cheeks. Who cares if men don't cry. She looks at me and wipes away the tears with her thumb. "Please stop crying." She asks. "But I'm not," I say. She rolls her eyes and smiles. "Well since that thing with Mama. Can I stay here tonight? Since today is Sunday." She asks. I planted a small kiss on her lips. "So that's a yes." She says, I nod.
