❃ Evangeline ❃

I slid the two slips of paper towards Mint and Wind. They were seated at the couch in my office, and I was seated opposite them, my legs crossed over.

Today, I was dressed in a white lacy dress that reached just above my knees, along with a black blazer. My hair was tied into a neat bun, and the beauty mark under my right eye remained prominent.

Wind and Mint leaned in, observing the slips of paper I passed to them.

"Boss, this is…"

Mint adjusted his glasses.

"It is an empty cheque, Miss Evangeline."

"I told you, didn't I?" I smiled, resting my chin on my palm. "I'll pay you extra for over working."

I tapped my finger on the empty cheque.

"Anything you desire, just write it down."

Mint and Wind shot their heads up at me.

I continued smiling.

Wind covered her mouth in shock.

Mint reached his hands out to the empty cheque, his hands trembling.

"Bo-boss, is it real?"

"The real deal." I nodded my head at Wind.

"Ohhhhh!" Wind squealed, grabbing the empty cheque from the coffee table.

"Ohhhh." Mint held the empty cheque in the air, as if he would kowtow down to it at any moment.

I felt a nervous drop of sweat rolling down my face.

Is it...a bit too much?

However, I thought back to the memories of Mint and Wind working with the previous Evangeline and the current me.

Yes.

They definitely deserve this much.

Mint and Wind wandered around my office with the empty cheque in their hands, sounds of awe escaping their mouth every now and then.

"Ohhhh."

"Wahhhh."

"Ahhhh."

They even inspected the empty cheque at every angle.

I couldn't help but laugh to myself, covering my mouth with my hand.

"By the way, Mint, Wind."

"Yes, boss! What do you require, boss!"

"Always at your service, Miss Evangeline."

I recoiled back at their enthusiasm.

...maybe it was a little too much.

Nevertheless, it was too late to take back the "extra pay" now.

"That day…" I began to question, frowning. "How did I exactly end up back at my house? I remember fainting in the lobby…"

Mint and Wind stiffened.

I also felt Segi on my head stiffening.

That's right, his favourite spot was now on my head.

Sometimes, I forgot he was even there due to how accustomed I was to his presence.

I raised my eyebrows.

"What's with your reactions? Why do you look so alarmed?"

I reached up and carried Segi in my hands.
